My ALO emailed me after I got my appointment, and said that he normally takes those who get in to a local Air Force base to go pick up boots. I was wondering what boots we are supposed to get, I don't want to get the wrong ones.

If your ALO takes you, I'm sure he/she'll tell you the right boots to get. No worries

You should get an email soon from admissions. I did... it's about what boots to purchase.

well i just heard that we can get them at orientation so thats what im planning to do....then im sure ill get the right ones! lol

and new this year (unless i am mistaken please double check me here current cadets) we have to have 2 pairs

That's actually been the rule since the class of 2011. I'm glad I didn't have to get 2 pairs! :)

and another bonus ours will be much easier to break in and don't have to be shined!!!

You might as well think beyond 2 pairs. The old Midas commercial. Pay me now or pay me later. My son used boots in Jack's Valley during BCT. They were totally useless after that. His 2nd pair, he said is almost to the point of needing a new pair. So, the only advantage to getting boots ahead of time is ensuring they fit well.

Well, I had one pair that worked fine, no problems all of BCT. My second pair I got in March of 2007 are the Corcorans which have leather luster on the toe, so I haven't shined those since last March! ;) Not so worried about shining and both sets of boots are in good shape!

Hey I have a pair of ACU tan boots, and I hear that we might be able to use those instead of the puke grean ones. True or False?

you definitely wont be able to during basic. you'll be standardized with each and every one of your classmates... dunno about the schoolyear though, or after recognition

whats wrong with the color of the "sage" ones? lol

hey, just be glad they don't have to be shined. it doesn't matter to me what color they are!:thumb:

Shining boots builds character. Its tough to master, but looks great when done well.

which means you have absolutely no excuse as to why your low quarters arent a mirror and your creases cant slice someone's neck open and your room to be not perfect...

at least that's what our cadre told us

:)

I dunno, the amount of work to clean them after being in the field vs a quick shine. In garrison though, definitely easier not to shine!

You will not be allowed to wear any boots that are not specified in BCT. After recognition you might be able to wear them if their authorized with ABUs.

So do they not provide boots? I thought that the entire uniform was provided, so is it only boots we have to purchase?

No.. boots are provided in beast as well as all you'll ever need minus a razor.

I believe the USAFA issues your boots, as they do your entire uniform, but you still need to purchase them, out of your paycheck. Not completely sure on this though. Cadets may have an answer to this?
