Hello, I'm a senior in high school and received a Army 4 year scholarship to Syracuse U. (Private $42K year). I am a recruited athlete and committed to another school much cheaper (Oswego State 24K). I contacted the chain of command at Syracuse and explained my situation, come to figure out Oswego is a cross town school to Syracuse for AROTC. They said I should have no problem transferring because it's cheaper for the government. I'm just curious when I should send in my transfer request? I just want to get it over with and paper work done so I don't have to worry about it! Do I have to wait for the last board to go through to send it in?
Thank you in advance

I have also sent in my acceptance for the scholarship as well and my portal has been updated to accepted*

Were there instructions on requesting the transfer in the packet you were sent with the scholarship information? My son received his scholarship last year, so I don't remember.
Congratulations on both the scholarship and the recruited athlete status!

Yes there was; it basically states to attach your letter of acceptance to the transfer school and a statement of why your requesting a transfer. It didn't really give a specific date! I figure it would be better to do it sooner that later so maybe they can use the extra money saved to give to another scholarship winner?
And thank you!

My daughter sent her's in last week. Crossing our fingers they approve it. I think we find out in May.

What did Mr. Schaertl say when you asked him this question??? He'd be the guy you'd want to be helping you with the process.

If I were you I would send in the request now with the letter of acceptance and a statement explaining that you are a recruited athlete.

I spoke with Mr. Schaertl on the phone and he told me I wouldn't (shouldn't) have a problem with transferring; that he would help push it through if it ever did have trouble. Cause in the end it's cheaper for the government and I'm technically still with the same AROTC Battalion because my Recruited school is a crosstown with my original scholarship. I just wasn't sure if I'm supposed to wait to request it or send it in now! Thank you!

I knew you'd say that. Sounds like you are all over this like white on rice!

Just FYI, Oswego is not close to SU.

Most of the MS1 and 2 don't make the drive for lab. To be honest with you, it's not the same experience.

Yes I know. It's about 45 min drive. PT is done at Oswego so at least I have that going for me lol where I live currently to get anywhere important usually takes 30 min anyway; and I travel to baseball 45 min away 3 times a week now so it won't be too much of a hassle for me since I'm used to it.

And like I said I'm a recruited athlete, I have no other choice lol

If you have no choice, then you have no choice :)

It not that bad neither, the MS3&4 are nice guys and you have a cool office. But be prepared to wake up early for the record pt test..

I know don't remind me :(
Are you a current cadet there or graduate?

Guayb...just reread your intial post, and I wanted to point something out to you. Not sure where you got the 24K cost for SUNY O. The actual cost is around 7K for tuition and fees, and 13K for room and board.

Because SUNY O is a state school you are probably going to use your scholarship to pay your room and board, since you are not going to receive room and board from the school. You will receive 10K a year for room and board and you are going to end up paying about 1oK a year for tuition and fees and the balance of your room and board. Add in your gas back and forth and you are going to be quite a bargain for the Army. So, if playing D3 baseball is worth that cost then I'd say you are making a good decision. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of all the costs.

Yes that was the plan! Thank you for the clarification. I did receive some academic money as well to help cover my tuition, and my Mother is a professor in the SUNY system as well so I get I believe around 1K off my tuition as well. After calculation with my parents I think it's will be around 5-6K a year for me.

May I PM you? I have a question that I'd rather not post for the public haha
