My daughter has been at college as a freshman with a NROTC scholarship. Now she has been accepted to USNA for graduating class of 2019. Will she have to pay back any money for the year the scholarship paid for her freshman year?

Agree with Grunt. If she left NROTC after her freshmen year "just because" she still wouldn't have to pay it back. Congrats to your DD!

I believe the answer is no. I have been offered an AFROTC scholarship and I have the ability to still walk away free after 2 full years

The answer is no. Typically, a scholarship student can drop out within the first two years and incur no obligation.

I am an Army ROTC c/o 2019 appointee and I know for a fact you will not be incurred and charges. Since she is leaving for another officership program it doesn't matter. She could have left 3 years into ROTC and been fine. On the other hand, if leaving into the civilian world I do not agree with the above posters about 2 free years. That is usually if one is unscholarshipped and does NOT want to contract their junior year. In my AROTC scholarship terms it states you have 1 full year after the signing to decide whether it is for you or not. Therefore to the best of my knowledge this means after one paid year from signing and then leaving into civilian world financial obligations or enlisted service will be incurred. If I am wrong correct me. And CONGRATS !!!

Agree with Reh16, ROTC you can leave after 1 year with no pay back. Service academies are 2 years. I believe someon on here was leaving ROTC after two years on this forum and they had no payback, but it had to be approved.

Actually you are wrong. Attention to detail is important particularly when it comes to things like your contract. You should go back and check yourself.

I know that at least for AFROTC you commission after your 2nd year. You are not bound by anything until you commission.

Just to clarify on my post... left after 2 years of ROTC to go to a SA. One exception to this rule, if a Scholarship Cadet for USAF is not selected for SFT after their second year, they are normally disenrolled from the program with no payback obligation.
