MOC Academy Coordinator called today to say they had just talked to Admissions and that a large percentage of offers had gone out. Once they get an idea about their yield they will round out the class and extend more offers.

Like they were sent out for people to recieve this week??

A TWE now would be much better than a TWE later, it would give us all a chance to move on an re-tool for next year...although DS is already taking notes to create his essays and personal statements for next year...

Don't give in to thinking you will be getting a TWE till it happens. Just have back up plans. My DS refuses to talk about a rejection notice till he gets one.

They didn't say. I only posted this to let people know that things have slowed to a trickle (to quote another thread) because they are trying to determine exactly what percent are accepting the offers. And...more importantly, that there might not be a ton of appointments left to go out, but that there are still a significant number.

The MOC's office is correct that there are very few appointment slots to be filled from original individual Congressional nomination slates (one to occasionally two slots assigned to each Congressman/woman and in most cases filled from the nomination list that was turned in); but based on prior years, Admissions won't be getting too serious about starting to analyze yield for a week or two - mainly because many appointed candidates do wait a bit before accepting Appointments. Just not enough data to analyze yet.

As many have already guessed, the Class of 2019 is most of the way to being filled by now - National Pool is mostly what is left.

Not exactly. First, about 300 slots will be filled by NAPS and Foundation. Another 535+ (the plus can be up to 20% of that total) from MOC slates. Another 100 from Presidential. The number from the national pools depends largely on the number who come from the MOC slates. And that depends how many qualified nominees, etc. Some MOCs may not have any qualified nominees.

I would guess that there are quite a few appointees who have not yet accepted or declined. Many could be waiting on the admissions results of highly selective civilian school, waiting to see if they get an appointment to another Service Academy, waiting to see if they get an ROTC scholarship of some type, etc. DS is waiting to make a decision until after he has his overnight visit to USMA at the end of the month. At that point, he will be declining one of the two offers, so it will open a slot up for somebody either at USMA or USNA.

Fingers crossed he chooses USMA ...

Kidding, hopefully your son chooses whichever academy fits him the best.

Last year a mass mailing of TWE's went out the last two weeks in March. It seemed most people who posted received the news around March 23-25, which is when our DS received his TWE. DS was a 2019 reapplicant but called his admissions counselor and asked to have his application withdrawn from consideration. He is excelling at his "plan B" school in NROTC and was selected for Marine Corps PLC (Platoon Leadership Class),which is the first step to OCS.
If your DS or DD receives the TWE, know that their plan B might be a great and rewarding plan A.

Good luck to everyone still waiting for the BFE and I hope to see some happy posts over the next few weeks. :)

Ah nuts I figured the mass TWE already happened.

Another consideration ~ waivers. I believe conditional LOAs have gone out. MY DD is waiting for one. Her letter stated that the offer is good until April 1st. Hoping we hear from the Waiver Authority before then. Fingers crossed.

DS' medical waiver was initiated on 09 Feb, and granted on 03 March. Hopefully, the USNA Waiver Authorities wouldn't have wasted their time on someone who isn't going to receive an appointment. :)

How did you know that the waiver was initiated? My DS is medically DQd and his DODMERB portal says that the Date File Reviewed is Mar 2 (for the 2nd time). Does that mean USNA is reviewing his medical file for consideration for a waiver? The other part still says pending waiver submission review.

DoDMERB sent DS notification via snail mail. If you have any questions/concerns give DoDMERB a call. We've found them to be very helpful.

All the best to your DS!

I agree with the above.

My DS got letter 3/13/15 via snail mail informing him he no longer needed a waiver--long story, but was able to prove he no longer had the medical issue he had been DQ'd for previously.

And that letter came in a TWE from USNA, which totally messed me up.

DS told me up to that day the portal showed no changes. Had discussed calling DoDMERB on and off for weeks, but DS was reluctant, knowing how crazy this time must be for all involved in admissions. Didn't totally agree with him, but decided that if he could handle the wait, I needed to also. Working on letting go, folks. Lots of deep breathing and going to my happy place mentally.

That being said, if he had been even slightly inclined to check by calling DoDMERB, I would have been all over that plan. Have heard good things about their helpfulness and getting some closure would be a good thing.

Sending positive thoughts your way.

I was in the same situation until a couple weeks ago when I finally received my waiver. I was worried that my LOA would be invalidated if I did not receive my waiver by February 1st(My letter said Feb 1st, instead of April 1st). I asked my regional admissions director about it and he said that my LOA offer would still stand if I did not get my waiver by then. I just though I would let you know to possibly relieve some pressure for your DD. Hope your daughter gets the waiver!

So does that mean they are no longer sending out conditional LOA's for those applicants still in the hunt who failed dodmerb?

Thank you, usmc.action! Very kind of you :) The wait continues but good to know that we can hold onto hope!

kent2015 ~ no idea :-/ I would assume if DD does not receive a granted waiver ... another candidate will be notified of an offer of appointment. Who knows if that candidate will have issues.
