Hi everyone.

-I am currently in my second semester of my MS1 year.
-I have a 3 Year AD national scholarship.
-I am doing well in ROTC
-I have NOT passed the PT test yet

As I understand it, to receive the scholarship and contract I need to pass the "for-record" PT test in April.

In January, I rolled my ankle very badly playing basketball. I was taken to the emergency room, no fractures. I was eventually diagnosed with a severe ankle sprain, and that it could take 6 weeks to heal. It has been more than 6 weeks obviously, and I was able to run for the first time today. It was painful and tough, as I expected, and I am beginning to worry that I will not be ready for the test.

If I had not been injured, all signs had pointed to me passing the test.

So what happens now? I see a few scenarios

1. Do you believe in miracles? I pass the test., contract on time.
2. I fail the test, I get another try next semester
3. I take the test over the summer at CIET, contract on time.
4. Fail the test, lose the scholarship.

QUESTIONS
-Which of these are most likely?
-How does "profile" come into play?
-What must I do to contract on time?

Thanks for your help, please ask any questions for context, I will be monitoring the thread.

To my understanding, as a 3-yr designee, you are not required to pass a pt test until the record test next fall. Of course, your scholarship won't be validated until you do. If your PMS agrees with your assessment of your performance, and you come back in August and pass the PT test, I don't see any reason your scholarship wouldn't be activated. Just make sure your cadre are clear on your situation. And someone, obviously, correct me if my understanding is faulty.

No direct experience but agree that you need to pass the PFT before your scholarship begins. I would think that next fall is where you need to pass as opposed to this spring.

My recollection (from a long time ago) is that you could be asked to do a partial PFT with a waiver on the run. Your Cadre may ask you to do a partial this spring just for the record.

What did your cadre say when you asked them??? Your PMS will have to validate your scholarship at the end of this semester. Unless you pass the PT test he won't be able to validate it. It will be up to him to determine whether they will rescind the offer or ask for an exception and allow you to retain the offer.

You say you are doing well in ROTC, yet you haven't passed your PT test. That is not doing well in ROTC. In the current environment you are going to have a tough time hanging on to that scholarship without passing the PT test soon. I could be wrong and your PMS may be a nice guy that is willing to go to bat for you and hang on to that scholarship.

Well said Clarkson. Glad to have an expert offer commentary on this.

Thank you for your wisdom, it's great help. I had been told by my MS1 instructor that my overall performance and potential in ROTC had been great, just to get my pt score up.

Thanks!

As are you no doubt aware, the cadets who do well on their APFTs generally do not limit their workouts to the morning battalion PT. Once your ankle heals, you would do well to curtail extracurricular fun stuff like basketball and focus on improving the APFT events in your spare time. Your cadre wants you to succeed, get contracted and activate the scholarship, so make sure it happens.

You can practically walk/slow jog and pass the test, weeks after a sprained ankle you should be able to make it by the max time. You may not be able to max it, but if you can pass it and not hit any road bumps then just pass the test... They are looking for a pass to keep you going on your scholarship route, not a 100. my 2cents.
