Hi All - I have been a faithful reader, and very occasion contributor (more like question asker!) over the last almost five year when DS started this journey.
One thing I have not yet seen, and after a long weekend FTX, DS finally called with BOLC date and said he thought it had to do with going into fiscal year 2016, which begins October 1.
He reports Oct 16 for MP. Please no snickering, it's his first choice after two ACL grafts on the same knee, so -
Please ring in on your thoughts about that? He is number two in the class at a top tier school, so I don't think it's his rating, which was an E at what was once a thing called LDAC...
Thanks!

What exactly is your question? Are you wondering why his BOLC date isn't until Oct? That's not unusual at all - some people won't go to BOLC until next spring. It all depends on how many commission, when class dates are scheduled, and how backed up they are. It's not an indication of the worth of your son. Be glad you've got the summer with him. I wish mine would be here!

No, No - not complaining, or questioning my child's worth.
Forgive me if my question was not clear - It is a bureaucratic one I guess - That is, are the cadets placed according to budget? I understand need of 2LTs at each branch, etc... It was just the first time I had ever questioned the timing being tied to "Fiscal Year".
Best of luck to your cadet!

It's pure math and timing! The fiscal year ends Sept 30 and new year begins Oct 1. They can only squeeze so many in before then so some, by default, roll over into FY 16. I was only wondering because a lot of people get wrapped up in trying to tie BOLC dates to ranking. There's so much more involved. Good luck to your son, too!

So, Oct. 16th, is that this year, 2015?

And no snickering from this end, I happen to think MP is a great branch, one of my older son's best friends from ROTC branched MP back in 2012, they just met up in Korea and he says he's loved it so far.

Tell your son not to feel bad about his report date, my son doesn't report to Aviation BOLC/Flight School until January 2016. We're going to need to start stocking the freezer to prepare for the long wait.
