Apologies for a question that I'm sure everyone know the answer to but me......My son was supposed to find out his status by Jan. 15, but he was deferred to the later notification period. We arent sure why....we are starting to feel a little discouraged. Can anyone please tell me HOW he would be notified IF he was is offered an appointment? When everyone refers to checking their portal, do they mean...checking their application status on the USAFA admissions page? I just keep checking to see if there are any new messages on the appapplication....that is where i found the letter of deferment on Jan. 15. He has three nominations (jrotc distinquished unit, presidential, and congressional) THANK YOU for any replies

As for an appointment offer, your DS would receive an email directing him to check the updated information on his application portal. There he would see that an appointment offer had been made.

He received an email letting him know he had an update when he received the deferral letter. This also happened to our DS.

Many of the EA applicants were deferred to the regular decision period because EA appointments generally go to those candidates that would get admitted to every school they ever applied for. It's a way for the SA's to compete for great candidates that might otherwise decide to go elsewhere as part of another school's ED process.

Don't be discouraged, instead focus on the plan B school(s) and get deposits down so he has a place to go if USAFA doesn't work out this year. Either way, you should know by April 15.
Good Luck!

What about the phone calls people are saying they are receiving?

Historically almost all but a select few appointments have been made by that point. Usually those that get one after are because the original appointee turned down the academy. This year the phrasing on the USAFA admissions Facebook page said they will be done by mid April. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on any of this

Lol, all the acronyms are really confusing when you start reading the forums! ;)

It's good practice for when you are actually in the military. There is a regulation and an acronym for pretty much everything -- just when you think you have them down, memo comes from AFCENT that to maintain OPSEC, each CO designate a TDY NCO whose AOR will be to change SOP to initiate immediate COMSEC/COMPUSEC protocol changing all acronyms used within UCC and making all C&I only by STC or secure SATCOM.

Don't worry, you'll get it.

Lol I got maybe 1/2 of what you said! OPSEC=Operational Security; CO=Commanding Officer (?); NCO=Non-Commissioned Officer; SOP=Standard Operating Procedure; SATCOM=Satellite Communication (?)
Haha, the military has it's own language!!!! We need an interpreter over here! ;)
