AROTC 3rd Board...Place to Wait

The timeline varies, at this point I wouldn't count on an approval by May 1st considering how long it's taking them to even post the results from the board.

If your son/daughter does receive an offer and needs a transfer, just make sure you get everything in as soon as possible, you will need the letter of acceptance from the school he wishes to attend and get in contact with both battalions right away to get things moving. Would the transfer be to a school in the same Brigade, probably hard to know until you find out which school the scholarship is awarded.

Best of luck, hope they are not waiting until Friday again.

Is it possible CC is moving forward processing (but not posting) transfer requests while waiting on approval of the 3rd board results? or can that process not begin until 3rd board is officially approved?

No, waiting on the 3rd board. We know he did not get accepted to his 1st choice school, so was curious
It is possible that he gets offered one (or more) of the other schools on his list. Then no transfer issues. Hopefully you will know something soon.

Update: Got an email from an ROTC battalion saying they were taking applications for their battalion scholarships in anticipation for CC "We are in the process of building our Order of Merit list for Campus Based 2-3 and 4 year scholarships for when the anticipated funds come available"

In the past they have processed the transfer requests as they came. Since that is money that is already obligated there is no reason not to decide on those. That being said, I have to imagine things are in a little bit of a turmoil at CC

Sent my emails out yesterday to start building my OML. It's the prudent thing for us ROOs to be doing. For you applicants...this is why I preach being in contact with your school ROTC Battalions. I have a list of about 70 that I don't think will be getting an offer. I can whittle that list down by removing the ones who didn't get accepted to Clarkson, then I can remove the ones who got offers elsewhere. I have about 20 left who probably won't get offers, but are admitted to the school. About half of those have visited campus, corresponded, or shown interest in us. They are the one's who are going to be considered for any future scholarships this spring. Make sure you make your interest known.

Clarkson, out of curiosity, how do you know about admission status and school visits? Does the admissions office release this info? Also, my DS was admitted into the School of Honors. Will this have any impact on a campus based scholarship? He also recently won a state-level automotive competition and placed at an area FFA competition. Could these awards help his scholarship status for campus based? He did not undertake these competitions for resume. He is just a diverse and dedicated kid. Last question. Does anybody know how many nursing scholarships have been awarded? My DS is pursuing nursing.

While ROTC does not officially have input on admissions, the two offices do talk to each other so it would be easy for a ROO to know who has been admitted to their school and who hasn't. I believe when he mentioned those that get offers from other schools, he is referring to AROTC Scholarship Offers, he can see those as well since I'm sure they have that information now, it just hasn't been released to those applicants that are waiting ever so patiently.

When he talks about Campus visits, he is referring to those that visit the Battalion while on campus.

I give up (sarcasm face here).

While we have "plan B" plans in place if DS doesn't get the national scholarship on this last round, we can't move on with those plans yet, so "plan C" is coming into play if we don't hear anything by Friday. DS will have to apply at the other five schools that were on his ROTC application (he applied and was accepted to his top 2 - uh oh, we may have messed up there); then he'll need to sign up for all summer orientations at every school because we've checked and some of the summer orientation dates are already full, and by george, if we don't have a summer vacation planned that may need to change because he can't pick the college yet so we don't know which summer orientation he'll actually attend). So, I can have all the patience in the world, but we still have to keep doing these "things" until we know different.

In the end, DS will do ROTC at "some" college and continue pursuing his plan of being an officer in the Army, but please let us move on...

Did he only apply to 2 of his 7?

I share in the frustration of SnowMom et al. There is so much "in play" right now and trying to balance the deposits, housing, summer orientation(s), other summer opportunities, and simply committing to a school so we can move forward is mind-boggling. We have our Plan A, B, and C all ready to go but all hinge on the final news from this board. Appreciate having this board to keep my sanity.

** This is NOT a scold or 'make bad' **

So, please do not interpret this as as personal.

BUT for any reader/applicant reviewing this in the future PLEASE APPLY TO ALL OF YOUR SCHOOLS ON YOUR ROTC LIST

If the application fees are an issue ask for a fee waiver. We/DD had to because of our situation. All were readily approved!

The age old Military adage PPPPPPP - Prior Planning/Preparation Prevents P*** Poor Performance saves lives.

Yes. Good points. It seems ridiculous that we didn't push in applying to all the schools since we've been waiting since October. We thought there would be time after the third board results were released, and here we are scrambling now.

In DS's case, all of the schools he wanted to go to were out of state, but the ROTC application required that at least one school be in-state, so he listed one in-state school as his bottom choice, even though he had no intention of applying there. Was done just so the ROTC application would be acceptable. Would be ironic if he got it only for that school.

Actually, I'm not...I'm talking about admissions visits. Although we don't have input into the admissions process, I always encourage my prospects to schedule their visits with me through the Admissions office. That visit is annotated in the admissions system. Not all ROOs have the same access, but on my campus Admissions treats me as part of the team. I am able to see a lot of information many of my peers don't. Many ROOs have to ask admissions for lists of admitted students. I can just go in the system and check my list of applicants.

My DD was accepted at both his West coast choices, UCLA & USC, we have been patiently waiting (and I have been lurking on this forum since it was created) but we are concerned about timing. It seems most of you are from the Midwest, I was wondering if it made any difference whether your choices were more expensive or smaller institutions, or whether choosing battalion level campuses made any difference either?

Wayne, expense was a big factor for us. We did not want him saddled with hundreds of thousands in debt. He really liked the school he chose so the decision is made. Room is reserved. Orientation is scheduled. We are driving out there tomorrow for academic advising and a Q&A with the ROO. He wants to get some info before scheduling classes in June. DS put four schools on the application. He will put in for a transfer if he happens to get the scholarship to a different school. It is a small-ish state school. Affordable and quaint, not well known outside of Texas. We are from Texas.

Those ARE local schools for us, and both are battalion level (meaning no travel to PT in the AM)... Our concern is that financially speaking, it would be less expensive to send two qualified cadets to less expensive colleges than one possibly more qualified cadet (higher on order of medit list) to a much more expensive school. Previously they maxed the 4 yr at $20K do do they now have the same internal rule that benefits applicants to lower tuition schools that provide good but not the recognized "best" institutions? We are talking about two of the most distinguished Engineering colleges in America. Is it a money decision as well for the Board?
