Hey, I just got my rejection letter from USAFA, and I am torn between attending Norwich University or Duquesne University next year.

I 100% intend to re-apply to the academy next year, and was wondering if any of you have re-applied to an academy while attending a senior military college, or even Norwich in particular. Is this manageable? Any advice?

Thanks!

Im a current Norwich University cadet and I can tell you I know alot of current cadets who used Norwich as a fallback and reapplied the second year and gotten in. I personally know of 2 kids who were accepted into USMA and 1 into USAFA this year after being here for a year.

For what it's worth, if you're going to re-apply to an academy I would put some serious consideration into the civilian option (Duquesne in your case) for two reasons: 1. You're going to have to do an initiation period as a freshman at the academies, why live through that twice if you can help it? 2. If the academy is your goal, getting better grades will be beneficial. Getting better grades as long as you stay focussed on your goal may be easier to do as a freshman at a civilian college--typically at the SMCs, your freshman grades are somewhat lower due to all the other demands.
Just my two cents...
Good Luck either way!

Two of my classmates and company mates applied to USNA during their knob year at The Citadel after initially being rejected. Both were accepted at USNA the second time around. I visited them during their plebe year when The Citadel played football at USNA. One of the them, whose father and grandfather were USNA grads told me that he would have stayed at The Citadel if he knew then what he knew now. The other one was more than happy to be at USNA and liked seeing The Citadel in his rear-view mirror.
