I will be attending a CVW next week and I have hair that is moderately long and unkempt. Would getting my hair cut so that I can style it into a slicked back look be better than leaving it long or should I just consider getting a medium length buzzcut?

I would suggest to go with a buzz. Dress to impress is what I like to say.

Get a trim and brush it before you arrive. And you say long, what is long? Don't buzz it for a CVW. No one expects you to be a Mid, just be presentable, observant, ask intelligent questions and dress professionally.

When my son went for his weekend the Mids he stayed with appreciated that he was himself and not overly "stiff". If your hair is out of control get a trim, otherwise BE YOURSELF!

Be in a position so that your hair is not a topic of conversation or something that becomes a focus for you. If you're uncomfortable with it being cut, then keep it long. If you feel like you'll be fidgeting with it long, then get a trim.

When my DS went to his CVW he was still sporting his "hockey hair". That said, he was THE ONLY male with remotely unruly hair. The Plebe that dragged him suggested he grow it as long as he could before I-Day (joking). While it made no difference (he has been appointed), the first thing he did was cut his hair when he got home :) Be yourself. There are no points for a crew cut. ;)

I suggest sporting a mullet. Business in the front, party in the back.

usna1985 said it best. If it is long enough to be a noticeable then I'd probably cut it.

But please, for the love of all things holy, SHAVE YOUR FACE BEFORE YOU GET HERE.

I can't tell you how ridiculous it looks every CVW when at least one guy shows up with a full beard walking around King Hall at meal.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I don't have a beard so that's one thing not to worry about.
