I will be attending FT this summer as a rated tech select. However, I am concerned with what I need to do one I get back. I passed the AFOQT but my scores are pilot-60. Nav-30, AA-30, verbal-20, quantitve-27. I just took my TBAS and my pcsm is a 25 with a possibility of 65. I know I can take the TBAS again and do better since I now know what to expect, however, I don't know if I should be looking into retaking the AFOQT because I am worried about failing it the second time. Any advice?

Thank you!

I don't know your aspirations but if you are going for pilot or nav these scores will not do. Buy the AFOQT preparation book. Buy a ground school book to be better acquainted with the aviation knowledge section. I can say that my scores GPA, PFA and FT wise were well below the average but the fact that my AFOQT scores were off the charts got me a pilot score.

What are your summer plans? Can you afford even 6-9 hours flight time?

I would say pay no attention to prior year scores. Yes, it is a gauge, but not hard and firm.

DS would say because he had flight hours it helped him not only for AFOQT, but also TBAS. Plus IFS!

Alpha is correct. Your cgpa, PFA an FT will all account for %, just like the CoC and PCSM.

You can always retake and it might help, but I'd suggest only if you actually studied for it. To be honest your verbal and quant are not far from mins and if you mess up you could screw yourself. Increase pscm by flight hours for sure. As for rated I agree with above.

I was planning on retaking the TBAS after my waiting time is up. If I score a better score on that+ some flying hours I may not retake the AFOQT because I talked with some people at my Det who got pilot slots and they said for pilot they only look at your pcsm score and only ask that you pass the rest of the AFOQT. Didn't know if you had any more advice.

The problem is asking anyone the year or 2 before you is going to be anecdotal at best. Flight hours matter. CGPA matters. Ranking out of SFT matters. CoC matters. PFT matters. Unless you really aree comparing apples to apples don't go down this path.
~ That means non tech to non tech with the same SFT ranking, same flight hours, same CoC ranking, same PFT score....because eventually there will be the line drawn.
~~ IE I believe this year was 391 pilots. Somebody was 392. It could have come down to something so small as 1 more point on the TBAS or 0.1 on the PFT.

Just saying don't leave anything out on the table.

kinda confused why your planning a TBAS retake as you don't know your scores. Fly first get some experience with reactions and hand eye coordination then maybe retake. Just my opinion.

I took the TBAS 2 days ago and my PCSM is terrible. What I was wondering is would it be my best bet to retake the TBAS and get some flying hours and look at my PCSM then before I retake the AFOQT? I am concerned about this because I don't want to get a worse score on my 2nd AFOQT.

Honestly, like I said above, you don't know what you scored on the TBAS. Yes, now you know what the expect, but that knowledge probably wont increase your reaction and hand eye coordination. So do exercises, fly, whatever, then maybe think about retaking it. I highly doubt you will see your PCSM skyrocket because you retook the TBAS. PCSM is based off of a few things all of which you can find on the PCSM website. If your other scores are low it really wont do much good, focus on the things that will make a difference, ie. flight hours, afoqt.
