RISE?

I just received an email inviting me to participate in R.I.S.E program. Has anyone participated in this program? If so, do you recommend R.I.S.E/LIFE mentoring, or are the extra requirements (such as attending Diversity Council meetings) not worth participating in this program?

Can someone please answer this?

DS was invited to RISE last year, but we already had travel plans and he didn't go. I talked to some that did and they spoke very highly of it. Attending does not commit you to any added responsibilities during the year and it is a great opportunity if you chose to go. For us, it meant he would have to give up his last couple of days with the family and he elected not to. He did use the time just before R-day to get to know some of his classmates which is essentially one of the benefits of attending RISE.

Bottom line, if you choose to attend, you will be glad you did, but don't sweat it if you'd rather not.

I'd just second what Grevar said. My son did not go last year. We had plans to meet up with family and friends in Boston before R-Day. However, the people that did go spoke highly of it. They got a little jump start on meeting other people in their class and learning more about the academy.

Our local USCGA recruiting officer organized a meet & greet for incoming swabs. Many USCGA parent association chapters plan summer picnics for incoming swabs and their families. DS attended the meet & greet organized by the recruiting officer. The LT stressed the importance of getting to know some of your fellow swabs beforehand. "Don't show up for R-Day not knowing someone", was his advice.

Thanks for the info on the RISE program. I think I will pass on this event in order to spend more time with my family.

Has anyone participated in LIFE and suggest that as well?
