I will be participating in AROTC (on a 4 year scholarship) next year in college. I am currently a senior in high school and am curious to what the haircut regulations are for cadets. I have talked to some current cadets and some said just buzz, while others said as long as its not too long or touching the ears then I would be fine. I have also heard that you can have three finger lengths at the top, but I don't really know what that means. I am just trying to gain a concrete understanding about what the haircut rules are. thank you, Go Army!

I suggest looking up AR-670-1 this will give you all the uniform and personal appearance regulations. I personally just get a buzz!

Congratulations on the scholarship (and transfer). Regarding haircuts, common sense goes a long way.

If you are too busy to read the relevant paragraphs in the above reg, you may be happy to learn that mullets are not explicitly prohibited. A conservative, neat mullet would make an indelible impression.

Get a fade. No high and tight, no shaved head (unless you're bald). Just a low or medium fade.

Thanks everyone!!!! And I was thinking get a 2 buzz on the side and clean up my top, would that be ok? I just read the AR-670 and think this would be acceptable. Not really a guy who likes "style" hairstyles. Thanks again

1 faded into a 2 longer on top (DS' preference)

My son has done the same as Bull the last (3) years. Nice to see you actually looking into it. Nothing wrong with making an excellent first impression. Believe it or not, on my son's first day of ROTC orientation his Freshman year, there wee multiple cadets out of regs with their hair but the really surprising thing to me was 3 or 4 showed up with earrings!! They were told to remove them and NEVER put them back in as long as they were involved in ROTC, including during their breaks from school.

As long as you make it look professional. If you show up on AD with a high and tight, trashy buzz cut, or your cut "lined up" you'll be told to fix it immediately. Just get used to it now.

Thanks Bull!

Heck, even at your Battalion, you'll probably get weird looks.

I've seen that a few times at my Battalion ... no bueno to say the least haha.

OP, at the end of the day, don't fret over it. Remember, ROTC expects most kids to come in with ZERO knowledge of Army traditions and standards. Those are the things you will learn over the course of your 4 years at college.
