Quiting by choice or by force?

HI! I have been following this forum for years, and my BFE finally arrived. I am so excited!

My dilemma is that I was super in shape for my CFA, then I stopped working out so much because my sport does not require the running or the sit-ups. I can max out on pushups and I think I will be ok with the long jump and the 600 yd. dash, but my 1.5 mile run, sit-ups, and pull-ups will be deplorable. I have been working out and now that I am out of school I plan to get in as good of shape as I possibly can before basic!!! My question now is will I get kicked out for failing the pft and the aft on my second day (or the 5-6 mile runs that we will be going on during)?? I have heard that the only way to leave basic is by quitting and medical turn backs. I wont quit, but can they forcibly remove me?

Any insight would be much appreciated!! I would love to hear your experiences!! Thank you so much!

Bottom line up front (BLUF): You won't get kicked out if you "fail" those two tests on the 2nd day.

You will be expected to improve, and then pass the tests at the end of BCT.
This is not difficult if you take advantage of the PT presented to you.

Honestly, you have enough time to get back in shape for Basic.
Set a training regime and follow it; it will also have positive long-term effects post Recognition where you're expected to PT yourself.

No, your first PFT/AFT in basic will not get you kicked out.
That said, failing it does set a bad precedent, and if you aren't passing by the end of BCT, you'll get put on Athletic Probation (aka Recondo)...trust me, that's not a good position to be in.

You have time to up your abilities in all areas between now and the day you arrive: TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!!!

The three exercises you mention will all GET BETTER by doing them!! Every day...multiple times a day...

Time to get busy!

You won't be kicked out for failing your first PFT/AFT. It is so early in BCT that some cadets don't pass it due to the altitude. Some have had to stop and vomit during the 1.5 mile run because they had not yet adapted. If you want to improve your ability to adjust to the altitude quickly, then be sure to keep working out. Good luck!

MombaBomba is absolutely correct! My DD passed out at the end of her first run due to altitude. We live almost at sea level, so it was quite the change for her!

My sons had a tough time with altitude too (we live about 1200'), but by the end of BCT, those problems ceased (for the most part).

You have time and with school out, no time for excuses.

Get busy.

If you fail the PFT/AFT in basic, the second one, you DO NOT get put on recondo. Know your stuff. It is called PEP. It is not the same as recondo. It is still not a great spot to be in. And no, you are not on athletic probation coming straight out of basic

Bottom line: YOU CAN DO IT!!

Just time to "get serious..."

Yup! I remember about a mile into the run on day 2 I started hurling and kept hurling until I finished the AFT. Almost could have walked at the same pace by the time I ended that! I acclimated fine by the end of BCT and was running the AFT at a good time again. They do a good job of getting most people up to snuff.
