Hello, all. My husband is currently away at field training, and I was wondering if there is anywhere online where pictures of field training are posted. Before transferring into ROTC, he was at the Academy, and they have a website dedicated to taking photos of cadets going through basic, so I'm just wondering if field training has the same thing.

I also am wondering if it would at all be possible to surprise him for the graduation from field training. I know that they had to give the contact information of all civilians that would be attending in past years, so I'm guessing that is how it is this year as well, but I figured it would be worth asking about.

If there are any others on here who have loved ones currently going through field training, I would love to chat! I don't know much about it. Any insight is much appreciated.

There is a person that does go around and take pictures but they don't publish it publicly so that cadets from later MAXs don't have an advantage on studying the pictures. The only time you will be able to see the pictures is at the graduation ceremony.

You can go to the graduation and spend a few hours with him for lunch that day.

I believe the reason they submit the names is due to base security. I am assuming you do not have a military ID card yet as a dependent. If not you need sponsorship to get on base. I would strongly advise you to verify this because that surprise may mean you can't even get on base.
~ Just an assumption because when our DS got married last year on base, they were required to submit the guest list one week prior to the wedding for all of their guests.

My son is there also - from Washington State. We are not planning on attending graduation due to the distance. But I cannot WAIT for him to return home on the 16th. Our last contact with him was when he landed in Atlanta, before boarding the bus to Montgomery! I just hope he is okay - and doing what he needs to do! Also praying he doesn't call us before the 15th!

Just an FYI the cadets are already at Camp Shelby JFTC. Just talked to one of the CTAs for my Det. They will be home before you know it!

Thank you for that update. My daughter is also at MAX 1.

I understand the feeling! Son just left and on TD 4! Feeling the same way you are!

One piece of advice, at least from my experience, be prepared for homecoming. They will come home and talk on the ride home, but expect the minute they hit their bedroom door they will collapse on their bed and sleep the rest of the day. They will than spend the next few hours texting all of their friends. We reconnected during dinner.

Maybe it was just my kid, but just putting it out there in case your child is like mine. We didn't mind because for us, it was he was back home and he needed to unwind.

He's not scheduled for his return until 11:30 p.m. - so I'm just hoping he'll tell me a few things before he falls into bed for what will probably be a 12 hour sleep! He graduates on Monday (1 week from now) but doesn't fly out until Tuesday evening. Is that normal and what are they doing from graduation time until he departs for the Atlanta airport the following day?

Cadets always fly out the day after graduation so that's completely normal. All that time between graduation and leaving for the airport the next morning is spent cleaning.

Thanks for the info!

I agree, my DS flew home the next day. I recall that they were handed back their phones after graduation, he called us and said I leave tomorrow on X flight.

They basically have an AF school bus that does a shuttle. It is not a taxi out situation. They may spend hours in the airport waiting because as they drop off Max1, they will pick up Max2. Repeat for bulk...IE, his flight is 6 p.m., incoming class last flight is 2 p.m. than he will be there at 2 to pick up the incoming.

DS waited a few hours incoming, but because his flight was the 1st out leaving, he basically arrived and went immediately through to boarding.

He still was exhausted after arriving at 11 a.m. He slept until 5 because he had to get up early for the bus. After that we went through his bag, pulled his blues and ABUs, sent them to the dry cleaners next day.

Off topic, but if you have not purchased a mess dress, start saving your money, because most units will have a dining out/in and 300/400s wear mess dress.
~ It costs @$400.
~~ In our DSs unit no 300 wore their blues with a bow tie, it was mess dress. He wore his 4 times before commissioning.
~~~ Since commissioning, he has worn at least 1x a year. Actually, I would say 2-3X a year because his classmates, like him also got married, and they wore them to their wedding or the crossed sabres. He also went Pilot and wore it to their winging.
Our son is there at MAX 1 too, enjoying the challenge and being with like-minded young men. It has been fun to get real letters from him. His girlfriend and her mom will be at the graduation.
Pima, thanks for the reminder about mess dress.
My husband is there too! he flys back next Tuesday :) just a few days away. I've been kinda bummed because I haven't heard anything from him not even a letter. Has your husband sent you any letters?
My husband was prior enlisted, Active Duty for 5 years before getting out and joining ROTC. So I'm a little used to him being gone I just wish I knew how he was doing :/
Our daughter is at Max 1. Can anyone confirm the time of the graduation ceremony on 6/15/15? Many thanks in advance.
