Hey guys I just wanted to know if not being active in my freshman year of high school would ruin my chances? I was not in any clubs other than Boy Scouts and I did not play a sport and I didn't get great grades. I am finishing my sophomore year now and I completely regret my freshman year. I am now in multiple clubs and I'm going to be the captain of our varsity soccer team now and my grades have increased 10 fold. I reached the rank of eagle and Im in multiple leadership positions now.

You made it to Eagle as a sophomore which is a lot better than many Scouts can say.

Showing improvement will help your file.

Never let your thoughts take you out of the fight.

Having a mediocre year certainly doesn't help your chances but they aren't "ruined". You certainly still have a chance to gain admission and whether you're successful will depend on how you perform during the rest of high school. Teenagers sometimes need a bit of time to get accustomed to high school and find their niche and that is completely understandable. It sounds like you've already set yourself on a good track this year, just keep it up.

Thank you very much!
