5 more days......

Who left home already? Who's leaving tomorrow? Monday? Tuesday? Wednesday?
Who has quotes memorized already? 7 basic responses? Who will screw up sir/ma'm?

Beautiful day in Colorado! Dropping off DS after first leave. Starting his last year, I can't believe it has gone so quickly.
Stay strong 2019 and never give up!
Be aware that if you have squadron get togethers in the Springs, your friendly cadre will know and seek you out. Not a problem, just don't get caught boasting, you will get 'special attention'!

DS and I are flying out Wednesday, 24th. This is a bittersweet countdown! I am incredibly proud of my son, and maybe nearly as excited as he is for this amazing chapter of his life to begin ;-) That doesn't make it any easier for this mom to say goodbye to the little boy who it seems in an instant grew into an independent, mature, confident young man. But I will; he's ready! T minus 4 days, 14 hours, and 35 minutes ;)

DS and I arrived yesterday and he is excited to begin. A few recommendations we received along the way, which I will pass along: (1) drink a lot of water, (2) help each other as you go, (3) keep a sense of humor and perspective, and (4) never quit!

You will do great, 2019! We are proud of you!

P.S. If you have time, try the buffalo short ribs at The Rabbit Hole on Tejon Street--cool spot, amazing food!

Keep your head down and just move. Don't give up. This is the only time in your life where you just have to survive and live. There is literally no choice or thinking on your part. Basic responses, don't ask stupid question or make stupid comments. Your life goal and purpose in basic is to survive and live. Everything else is done for you. get ready its hard but youll make it. DO NOT give up.

Find the humor. One minute at a time. Remember your dream. Remind yourself that you CAN do it. Remind your new found classmates that they too CAN do it and you will ALL DO IT! "Do...or Do not...there is no try." --Yoda. KNOW that there are several who are supporting you in their thoughts. It is a great experience. DO NOT give up. Attitude is everything.

Everyone is forgetting the most important piece of advice! HAVE FUN!!!!!! Are there points where it will suck? Of course! Will there be days where you're so sore that you'll barely be able to get out of bed? Count on it!

Will there be times where you met some great people that are just like you and have the same desires and you realize you're not alone in the hurt? Yup and that's where the fun comes in!

Go out and do things, explore your new life. It will be scary at times but knowing that you have someone standing next to you that you can count on is priceless. I'm not talking about your parents and siblings I'm talking about your new family.

HAVE FUN!

We leave tomorrow!
Before doing so, I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone on this forum! Y'all have been such a blessing and a great source of advice and encouragement! This has been such an awesome journey thus far and I can't wait to continue it with the rest of the class of 2019!
Good luck to the class of 2020 as you begin/continue the application process!
See you all after Basic!
Much love and God bless,
Bailey

I'd wish you good luck but you don't need it. You have more than enough drive and determination to see you through this phase of your life. So I'll wish you and everyone else Godspeed instead.

So this is giving me flashbacks to a year ago, but I think, "it's ALREADY been a year?"

To all the appointees: I agree with Boozebin. You don't need luck because you've all already proven that you can succeed. USAFA wouldn't have given you an appointment if they didn't think you deserved it. So on Thursday, you'll be caught in a whirlwind of activity and confusion. Just remember that ALL of you are confused and lost, but none of you are alone. You can do this!

We will ALL be thinking of you tomorrow as you embark on this great adventure in your life. Yes, ENJOY it. Find the fun. Don't take anything personally. Remember WHY you wanted this. There IS gold at the end of that rainbow!!!!
