Hi all, I'd like to start off by saying thank you to everyone here on Service Academy Forums for the help they've offered me up to this point - I feel much more prepared for Beast and West Point at-large as a result of the online community here. I hope that I am able to return the favor and help others on here as best I can.

Not that I am worrying most about leaving West Point before I even get there this Monday, but when do plebes receive leave after the conclusion of Beast? I have heard that the evening of A-day (August 15th for 2019) and usually the day after can be spent with visiting family. USMA hasn't given us much information regarding this, and I'm sure my parents will be notified over the summer, but they and I are curious about how that will work. Also, labor day weekend is generally a good extended weekend to plan to take leave, correct? Thank you so much in advance. Looking forward to a difficult but extraordinary summer with any 2019ers on here!

After the A-Day parade, the new plebes are released around noon or later---the time is company-dependent. You are free to spend time with your family for the rest of the day, returning by taps. On Sunday, you are released early but you must be back by formation. Most new plebes return in the afternoon to get ready for the next day (first day of class). http://www.usma.edu/parents/SiteAssets/ACCEPTANCE DAY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS15.pdf

My grad used a pass in October, choosing to stay over Labor Day and study and relax. Depending on how many passes you have for the semester, if you burn up your only one in September, that's a long time until Thanksgiving. However, now plebes seem to have lots of passes to use and take off all the time.:confused2:

I was wondering the same thing...Labor Day or Columbus Day are both 3 day weekends but also are home football games this year...is it mandatory that plebes attend the football games or is it possible for them to get passes for those holidays?

Football games are mandatory (although I'm sure there are some exceptions to policy).

You are going to the home football games unless you are in Keller with a serious problem.

I thinkI read that the two football games on Labor and Columbus day might be moved to Friday to accommodate a 3-day weekend. Last time I checked, Plebes only receive one pass per semester unless they earn another one through performance.

One more comment about passes......passes have to be approved and a cadet must be in good standing academically, physically, and militarily.

Frequently, you won't know if a pass is approved until right up to the last.

That or an approved trip section, typically club sports with authos.

There are also usually performance passes available for many, but as mentioned can't use on home game weekends

Not to go off topic here, but regarding football games, do plebes get free time before and/or after the games (if they aren't parading) to visit with family who may be attending the game?

One or two regiments will conduct a parade on the plain in the morning before the game. Another regiment will be tasked with the "March On" at the game. Say it's a 1200 kickoff. The parading regiment(s) will be done with parade at say 1000, leaving 2 hrs to perhaps socialize or tailgate with the fams. The March On regiment will have to form up maybe 1.5 hrs prior to kick off.

After the game, unless you have some kind of duty, you will have time and it will be easier to socialize with family-unless they are hurrying to get out of town.
