Sorry if this has been covered, haven't had a chance to review all the AFROTC FT posts. Looking for confirmation of graduation date for MAX 5 session, based on other MAX grad days, I'd assume the MAX 5 session (July 15 to Aug 11) grad day is Aug 9. Seems these sessions start on Wednesdays, end on Tuesdays and graduation is the Sunday before it ends.
Can someone confirm?
Thanks much, it would be a long drive for us, but my DS's 21st Birthday is Aug 9, and he is attending MAX 5, so if that is the graduation parade would be hard for us to miss.
Thanks.

I can't confirm the graduation date for you, but it seems strange that the graduation date and departure date you have listed are 2 days apart. Usually you have graduation, and then you're all packed up and ready to leave the very next morning bright and early.

As to going to the graduation. If you don't live within a 2 hour drive, it's hardly worth it. Really, they're going to perform the parade, you'll only get to have them for an hour afterwards so you can't go far for lunch, then they'll go back to whatever they have them doing that day. He'll be fine if you wait 2 more days to celebrate his birthday in style once he gets home. He'll probably want to crash for half a day after getting home, but after that good food and great company will be a real treat.

I agree with Non Ducor regarding attending the graduation. Maybe, I would stretch it to a 4 hour drive, but anything more than that, it is not worth your time, energy or gas.

They have little time with you on the day of graduation. Maybe 2 hours. They can't travel back home with you. The perk is taking a picture for the prop and wings.

I get it his bday, but just my opinion, I think all that will be on his mind that day is:
1. Thank God I am done with SFT
2. I want my phone!
3. Got to get back to my room to pack up
4. I want my dang phone
5. X hours to leave this place!
6. Phone!
7. Thanks folks for coming...see you in 36 hours
8. Phone!

I am not making light that this is a major step in their AFROTC career, but just saying that I occur with Non Ducor.

Non Ducor,

It is not uncommon. They graduate, clean and pack the next day. Fly out the following day.

At least that is what I have read for this year group. When my DS attended it was graduate, pack and leave O dark thirty the next a.m.

Maybe we were on a shorter time schedule last year, because we graduated and then cleaned and stripped the camp bare starting at 4 something in the morning the very next day. It took a few hours, but we were still on the bus and headed to the airport just in time to watch the sunrise.

If I am right you guys were not 28 days.

I read here that they now have a day before flying out. Graduate. Day to pack up/clean. Leave O Dark 30 the next a.m.

Back to the OP,

Just saying I think the cadets really do not see this the same way as parents do.
~ Parents: it is a moment in time of their child's life that they want to embrace
~ Cadets: it is a moment in time they just want to complete.

Pima is correct. My daughter went to MAX 1. She boarded the bus back to the airport at 5:30 AM the morning after graduation.

Just to close the loop on this, Max 5 Graduation Parade is Aug 10, 0900 Central Time.

I can also confirm highflyer. DS let us know before he left that MAX 5 graduation is Monday, August 10, 2015 at 9:00 CT. However, what I would like to know is what day MAX 5 leaves for Camp Shelby. Does anyone know? I've not received any letters from DS! I'm not surprised, but he did take envelopes and stamps! I love Pima's list of things on their mind at the end of field training. Spot on!
