Hi,
My name is Zach, my EC is looking very good (Boys state, orchestra lead, varsity sports, hundreds of hours of community service, NJROTC, martial arts, yada, yada, yada...), I am just concerned about my academics and very slightly about my pt.

ACADEMICS

-UW GPA 3.027 W GPA 3.27 (I know all schools do GPA differently.... my school: 100-90 = A, 89-80 = B, 79-74 = C, 73-70 = D, 69-0 =F)
At least half of classes were honors also had 2 AP's
GPA has had an upward trend.
For 11th grade year I obtained a 3.67 UW GPA and a 4.0 W GPA
SAT = CR/M 1270 Total 1870 (CR 600, M670, W600)

PT

Currently for 1 min trials (people often say the numbers are high and ask if I'm doing them correctly, answer is yes the form is solid chest touches ground on every push up then full extension)
Push = 64
Sit = 75
Run is low 7's (around 7:10 most of the time)
I am slightly concerned about my run score.. I have recently started running 2 miles a day to improve for ROTC whether I get the scholarship or not.

So in yall's opinions how do I look academically and my run?

as a side note, I am a official US Patent Inventor, which I have never read anything about people interested in rotc being at such a young age. Will the board care about that at all?

Thank you in advance guys!! I really appreciate it.

You will need to make sure you have leadership positions for the EC's you listed, are you a Captain for any of your Varsity sports? Are you in a leadership position in any clubs or organizations, this is a big part of your application and can make up some ground on your GPA. Your SAT looks fine.

I won't bring up form but, don't expect to get those numbers on an official APFT, the regulations are a lot more then just touching the ground and full extension, the sit ups can be a bit tricky as well.

Like Jcleppe noted, the AROTC Scholarship is build around SAL: Student, Athlete, Leader. What's your leadership background? Your SAT scores look rather well, although I would still advise to take them again if possible, as improvements (even incremental ones) always help (Side note: I was 10 points on my SAT from getting into the Honors college at my school, and I could've taken the SATs at least two other times). I'd go out on a limb and say your Athlete portion is probably covered. Oh, do you know your class rank? Not necessary, but might help paint a better picture

I do have a lot of leadership in my EC's.
I plan on retaking the SAT's at least 1 more time.
My class rank is 298/471.
My school is very competitive and sends a lot of students to ivy league colleges

I do have a lot of leadership in my EC's.

Without knowing what type of leadership position you've held, t's hard to give an opinion.

Your class ranking is not a deal breaker since it sounds like your school has a good profile, the rest of your application will need to be strong.

currently my leadership positions have been
-martial arts trainer (idk if this counts as leadership but it does in my eyes)
-lead of a church group for 11 and 12 grade
-GA Boys State
-was the orchestra 1st chair for 9 and 10 grade
-manager at the place I work (we do light construction and odd ends such as logging, trenching, etc.)
-I am on the ultimate Frisbee team for my school and our captain just graduated (only seniors are allowed) so the coach will be picking a new person for the new season and it looks like I have a good shot at it but that isn't noteworthy until it happens I guess :bang:
I am also a vp for a club and a chairperson for another.

with that additional information does it look at all promising?

I'm also still curious about the patent?

A word on your running.... don't just run distance to improve your time. Mix it up with sprint intervals and other stuff to improve your distance time. I know it seems counter-intuitive but it works.

I would believe the patent would catch the eye and be noteworthy. It is something that sets you apart from the crowd in the light that you are innovative. Even if it doesn't, what would it hurt to put it on your application?

+1 To kinnem on mixing it up for running.

Do you wanna keep busier over the summer rather than just physical training? My two cents would go to studying for your critical reading score. (1270 is very good though between math and reading) In just one month of prep I was able to pull mine from a 650 SAT to a 34 ACT (~750 SAT equivalent). Remember AROTC loves the CR+M. I think I read somewhere 1280 was average(?) for a scholarship winner in AROTC.

Thankyou very much kronk. What would you recommend i do to study for CR? Any services? Books?

I bought the official SAT book, but didn't use it all that much.
I focused on learning to break up sentences into different parts, and to process information quickly.
I don't want to steer you in any wrong directions by giving specified regiments, especially with academics as everyone learns a little bit differently.
