In my candidate portal, there's still a red box that says the application will be open on July 1. Have other peoples' applications opened yet? Also, how does admissions determine which candidates' applications open first?

Is is West Point I assume. Unless you are a recruited athlete it will remain close. The northeast commander sent out an email that they were experiencing problems opening portals. As a result, it woo open for most candidates on or near August 15

This includes candidates across the country.

Hopeful 97, is tha what your portals says because I checked today and mine says July 31

Hopeful 97,how competitive is your file, it could be that. I am very competitive in that but have low sat score. It could be that, check your friend and compare. Maybe I'm wrong but it could be that.

So for those whose files open sooner are more competitive than the files that open later?

I didn't go to sle but my application still says that it will be opened July 31

I think some of you may be misreading what the portal says, unless your portals saying something different than mine. Mine says "This evaluation will not begin until July 31, 2015 at the earliest for most candidates to USMA 2020." The key word in that is earliest. Also, the portal never said the application would open July 1(for me it never said that anyways). It said it would open July 1 at the earliest.

But that doesn't account for the different dates posted for different accounts

No offense EVDfootball, but I highly doubt the opening date is based on how competitive one's file is. I was told by an FFR the main thing they look at for opening files is one's ACT/SAT scores. If you SAT score is low they probably won't even open your file. I think a few days ago someone on this forum even said a that one should wait until one's SAT score goes up before he or she applies to become an official candidate if his or her SAT score is low. So it wouldn't make sense that yours would be say July 31 if they were analyzing the competitive files first.

Point blank, point simple. I know my sat scores are low for service academy. The funny thing is people assume that my portal is 100% not going to open. I applied to the naval academy on April 1st, and became an official candidate with those scores. No I'm almost completely done. I know my scores need to improve.
