Uniform question

Towards the end of PS. The baseball game is really the first time they wear them usually. Then Parents Weekend. White Works are just a PS thing.

Thank you navyhoops. Formal parade during parents weekend still in white works correct?

Question for current/recent mids . . . what do mids wear to class on the days they have PE? In our day, we wore whiteworks (which, BTW, became a much beloved uniform after PS) so we could wear our PT gear underneath. But I think they no longer do that so am curious what is worn instead.

We did too 85. I heard a rumor they wear blue and golds or something. Not sure on that, so curious too! We also wore them during reform week while we got all of our uniforms out of storage and got moved in. Once they softened up, they were actually very comfortable.

19dad, yes, that was the uniform for the prior years. Whites are actually not a normal parade uniform. Only time ever worn is PS Detailers because FDBs are not worn during detail.

Last year after the formal parade of PPW, the plebes returned to Bancroft and changed out of working whites into regular(?) whites. My son said it was the second time he had worn them as they wear them to the baseball outing the week before.
For class during the school year they wear dark pants and a short sleeved dark shirt with dark shoes and their regular cover.
I think for PE classes they just bring and change into blue rims and the dark mesh shorts or swimming trunks depending on the class.

Working blues. Change for PE in locker rooms, change back after PE. Have to be quick about it to make it to class on time.

Woe to whoever has swimming (Lejeune) right before EE (Rickover). You end up showing up to class quite damp.

No whiteworks for PE days. No Working Uniform Blue Alpha. What is this world coming to?

:)

Hahaha! Nuensis, is the rumor true no more Winter Working Blues? We used to get yelled at about the PE white works thing alot, so you can blame us old guys for ruining that for you current Mids. So if people are injured, like a cast or knee, do they wear Blue and Golds or White Works to class? I had a cast and couldn't get my working blues on for a few weeks. I wore white works. I remember doing the Museum (renovations... so we had class at the Museum) to Lejeune thing... I hated that!

Oh and your Plebes have put on Summer Whites more than just the Baseball game and Parents Weekend... just ask them how many uniform races they have done? :) They just didn't get to wear them anywhere!

Not sure if they still allow the utility uniform? In my day we could wear woodland camouflage utilities (would now be NWUs) and we wore blue rim/shorts/trunks under. The caveat was you couldn't miss noon meal formation (in working blues) so you had to change at one point or another...and it was very hard to do as a plebe with chow calls (unless you had the period before off). So in some cases you had a few extra minutes to change and wear a more "comfortable" uniform.

NWU's are only for severe weather days or those standing ATFP watches. Only working blues or better are authorized for class.

ATFP watch...not an acronym I remember from back in the day, 18MIDN, please inform?

This uniform discussion is bringing back a lot of memories. I seem to recall that when SWBs were the UOD and we plebes had daily room inspection, we had to be in summer whites for inspection. It just happened that our room was usually scheduled for an 1130 inspection. This meant dressing in SWBs in the morning, going to class (I want to say math first, then English), heading back to Bancroft, dressing in summer whites, standing inspection, then putting the SWBs back on for chow calls and noon meal formation. On the days I had PE that meant changing into whiteworks echo (jumper, working white trousers, blue rim, gym shorts, blue rim cover) after company training in the early afternoon, so there were some days we changed uniforms 5 or 6 times. Plebes think, during PS, that the uniform races and fashion shows are all a giant hazing, a way to fill gray space. Little do they know how soon they'll be grateful for that practice!

ATFP = Anti-Terrorism Force Protection.
