I just wanted to inquire as to how I am looking as far as being offered either an AROTC or Marine option NROTC scholarship (the only 2 that i an applying for) I am not sure if the school of choice makes a difference, but if I accept a scholarship, I want to attend The Citadel and plan on majoring in some category of engineering. The scholarship is my backup for the SA's. I am a rising senior and my GPA is about a 4.2 weighted and a 3.7-3.8 unweighted. I recieved a score of 1860 on the SAT, Math-540, Reading-710, Writing-610. I am planning on taking it one more time in October. I am 22nd out of 212 in my class. I also have plenty of sports such as: Track 1 year, Cross Country 1 year, football 2 years, will be wrestling in my senior year, and recreational/travel soccer. I also have plenty of other EC's such as: clubs- VA DECA Club 2 years, Beta Club 3 years (and will be treasurer senior year), Spanish Club 1 year, Trojan Club (Varsity athlete club) 1 year, and an SCA rep for 2 years. I am also attending a selective leadership program held by my local Chamber of Commerce. Almost every class I have taken throughout high school has been either advanced (not AP) or dual enrollment college credit. I also attend an emgineering program called the Piedmont Academy of Engineering and Technology for morning classes every school day (for junior and senior year) that is similar to a Governor's School program. I take college english, math, and engineering classes there. With this program I completed a 2 week program called Industry Fundamentals which focused on team building excercises and also allowed me to tour several multi-national company facilities such as FedEx Air and Volvo. This summer I completed a 4 week engineering internship with a multi-national transformer company called ABB Inc. I also work about 20 hours a week at Chick-Fil-A. I am also a licensed U.S. Soccer referee and work as a ref for a soccer club. I also volutnteer as a youth coach for this club. I am proficient in two 3D modeling engineering MATHCAD Softwares: SOLIDWORKS and APT Creo. I also did Cub/Boy scouts in grade school, but not past about the 6th grade or so. I am in very good physical condition and I am very good at public speaking and interviews so I am not worried about the APT of the interview. The only flaws I may have are a speeding ticket and I have gotten In school suspension (which is for very minor offenses at my school) twice. Obce for horseplay on a bus and another for driving to the engineering academy when unauthorized to do so (because I missed the bus). One other thing that I may add that (I am not sure if it makes a difference) is that I go to a nationaly recognized high school that is ranked in the top 2,000 high schools in the country.

I also realize that all of those college credits will need to be thrown out, that is not an issue for me.

First of all, if you win a scholarship you will be attending a school they choose, although you get to list your preferences. If they have no more scholarship slots available at your first choice, they'll try your second choice, etc. etc. Feel free to list the Citadel but your scholarship may not be awarded to that institution.

Your SAT math score is weak and you should work to improve that as much as possible. You do have a lot of sports but there is no sustained effort in them. I also don't see a lot of leadership. Personally I don't think attending a selective leadership program is leadership. Leadership is leadership. But that's just me. You've got a shot but you also have areas you can improve. Hope you win a scholarship.

Agree Math SAT is low. Need to get that above 600. Also take the ACT and see if you do better.

Do you have morr accomplishments within these clubs? I listed the ICDC conference for DECA for my junior and senior years as well as my 1st place finishes at smaller competitions as examples.

As NavyHoops and Kinnem stated, your Math SAT score is low for NROTC, for AROTC it's not as much an issue since your combined score is 1250 it puts you above what's needed to receive max points for the interview academic section. The rest of your stats look good. A lot is going to depend on which schools you list on your application for AROTC, some battalions are far more competitive then others. One big thing to remember is that competitive does not mean better when it comes to AROTC Battalions, they are mainly competitive because they are at schools with a high application percentage.

Make sure you highlight any leadership you have in any of the clubs and organizations in which you are involved.

One thing to be aware of, if your looking to major in engineering, the schools may take a harder look at your math SAT score when reviewing your application. You may get the AROTC Scholarship but not be accepted to the school, it happens often.

I do plan on taking the SAT again and studying mostly math. The first time I took it, I focused on reading, do now I will focus on math. And I do have a few other leadership roles withon clubs that I will be sure to include. Thank you!

Your chances are looking pretty good. I would retake the SAT as many times as you can. I got a 3 year scholarship last year, and my SAT initially was an 1840, but I retook it, scored higher on math by 60 points, and (thankfully Cadet Command super scores) my score ended up being a 1900- 660 math, 620 reading, 620 writing. Everything looks good on yours. As far as the ticket and ISS go, I got a speeding ticket my sophomore year, and it got expunged, but even if it isn't, the application asks only if you have been convicted of something worse than a traffic violation, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about. With ISS, I don't know how that works necessarily, I don't know if they put that on your transcript or what...but feel free to message me if you have more questions.

Thank you very much, that is a great confidence booster! If you wouldn't mind, I may take you up in that offer and PM you at a later time. Thank you!
