DodMERB Question

Hey everyone,

Just did my physical exam for the dodmerb (for ROTC) today and it was different than expected. After the hearing test I waited over an hour for the doctor to see me, and the exam lasted 10 minutes max. All he did was check my throat, ears, check for hernias, and had me touch my toes. Then he went over the things I marked 'yes' for and just nodded. He asked if I have been physical active to which I said yes, he said 'Okay well you seem to be in good physical shape' and then left.

I was under the assumption that this was a comprehensive exam where I had to take a urine test and everything. I'm looking through the packet from the website and seems like he didn't do nearly half the things he was supposed to do. Would this affect my application? I don't even understand what he would put down for some of the steps.

Also, does this doctor determine my eligibility or will my medical history still be reviewed by someone from the DoD?

Thanks

What you had sounds like the standard DODMERB exam. They are very simple and not much more than what is used for a school physical. Neither my DD or DS had urine tests as part of their exam. Yes, your military history will be reviewed at DODMERB.

Thanks for the response! I guess I was just expecting something a little different. Unfortunately after looking over the standards I will most likely be DQd for microscopic hematuria found during a routine physical after I ran a 5k, and from when my throat swelled up from pollen allergies almost 10 years ago... Any advice on what to do now if I am anticipating a DQ?

Gather any old medical records. If issued a DQ they may send you for a remedial or ask for additional documentation. Just follow their instructions and ensure to make copies of everything.

When does ROTC scholarship
Notify you to go for a physical? I thought I had read it was after it was awarded? Thank you!

ROTC candidates that also apply for SAs can go for the exam earlier because one of the SAs requested. The other time can be if they are offered a scholarship as a ROTC cadet (in college). Sometimes they are offered at the end of the year and will be activated when they arrive back at school.
