Sorry if this is a dumb question :)

Does the SF86 form get filled out online and printed or do you print it out and write directly on the form? Or does it not matter???

You'll eventually do it online. Recommend you print out and do a rough draft, since you'll typically need to gather a bunch of information to complete it.
 
DS did it on line at home and printed the form to take with him last year. To my knowledge CC/cadre accepted the paper version.
 
Sorry for using an old thread... Is this SF86 filled out online? I wanted to get a jump on it a found the following paper versions
SF86 revised 1995 (someone I know received this from their BN to fill out)
SF86-2 revised 2008
SF86-10 revised 2010

My idea was to fill one out as a draft like Clarkson advised.

Looking at the info and getting all the addresses, points of contact, dates required are definitely a good start. It will make the online application go much quicker.
