What SMC is the least physically challenging?

I hate to be "that guy," but out of curiosity is there a easier SMC to attend? Or are all of the requirements the same? Thanks in advance.
 
"Easy" is a pretty subjective term. If by that you mean you're looking for the SMC where the lifestyle is the least restrictive...then I would point you to Virginia Tech. Its the closest you'll get to a "normal" college lifestyle at a SMC.

If you're talking about which SMC is the easiest to get accepted into...then I really have no idea.
 
Interesting question. I assume that you are hoping to go into the Air Force after graduation? Seriously -if you are looking at this from this particular perspective then you really want to go to a normal civilian college as you are going to be seriously unhappy at even the mildest of Military colleges. Why the heck would you go to one if you are uninterested in being physically and emotionally challenged?
 
Full disclosure: I didn't attend any of 'em.

I doubt anyone can really answer that question. All of the SMC's have specialized groups for those who are training for the Rangers, to be SEALs, etc so each can be physically challenging for members of those groups. Our son is at one SMC (TAMU) and his best friend from Scouts and Middle School/High School is at another (VMI); both just finished their freshman (FISH/RAT) year. Both A&M and VMI have physically challenged them but in somewhat different ways. At A&M there is a lot of physical training, much of it early in the morning for each outfit, and that continues through the entire four years. Our son's friend at VMI has a different set of physical challenges - significant in their own right and since I know less about them I can't speak to them. I know that both young men are doing well and both are very happy with their choices. Another Scout friend just finished his freshman (Rook) year at Norwich; and has had yet different physical challenges. I think Bruno's comment is right on the mark.
 
I doubt that you will get a definitive answer since no one has had to endure 4 years at each of the SMCs. My guess is that VMI and the Citadel may be slightly more challenging than the others due to the nature of the schools. However, I doubt any of them are easy.

Don't let yourself "be that guy." Enlisted Soldiers look up to their officers (at least they should). While PT is not everything, you will loose street cred if you are bringing up the rear. A new lieutenant will be leading older NCOs. These guys will have combat tours under their belt. If you walk in with no experience pulling up the rear, you will probably have real leadership challenges. If PT is your weakness, challenge yourself and don't shy away from the tough SMCs.
 
I agree that was a classic line from Bruno. AF is known to believe a round of golf carrying your clubs counts as PT. Lifting the beer afterwards counts for your weight lifting regimen.

I also think that the question is subjective. VT maybe be the most lax, but to get into VT maybe harder than VMI or Citadel, especially if you are OOS.

As others have stated you became that guy the minute you alluded to wanting the easiest path. It may have been taken the wrong way, but that is how it came across.
 
If your goal is to commission active duty, my thinking is: avoid attending any of the SMCs.

DS is at UNG, and the pressure to be always running in the fastest group, getting 300+ PT scores, seeking extracurricular and corps leadership, and maintaining 3.5+ GPA only gets more intense as the cadet gets further along in the program.
 
Depends upon the context of "easy". If you mean getting in academically, UNG is probably easier than the others. TAMU and VT would probably be the hardest, especially if you are looking at engineering as a major. VMI and Citadel are probably the most physically demanding, since they try to envision themselves as a southern West Point. I'm sure all of the other SMCs are physically demanding as well, but as others have mentioned, I hear that AFROTC is less demanding than the others.
 
Virginia Tech, it has the biggest civillian population. However, it truly depends on the branch's ROTC. Marine ROTC will be harsher than Air Force ROTC no matter the college.
 
Alright having done knob year at the Citadel and now Rookdom here at Norwich I can honest;y tell you the Citadel is more physically demanding as opposed to Norwich. But if you decide to contract Air Force I'll tell you right now that the Air Force PT here at Norwich is actually harder than the one for the Citadel.

Not sure what you are basing a civilian population on. Virginia Tech has under 30,000 students. TAMU has over 55,000.

The Corps at TAMU is around 2500. The Corps is a very visible, but small percentage of the student population. Being a part of that minority gives a very unique set of challenges versus being a cadet at VMI where all students are in the Corps (or whatever term they use there). It may make it more difficult for some students to constantly see how the "normal students" live while they are in the corps with the demanding physical and restrictive conditions of their environment. At the Academies or VMI for example - everyone has the same set of "suck". I have had one son and husband go thru the corps at A&M and one son at USAFA. My A&M son tells my USAFA son he has it easier simply because at USAFA everyone wears a uniform, everyone has PT, everyone has restrictions, etc.

I realized you were asking about least physically challenging. At Texas A&M - totally depends on your outfit. You can look on the Corps website and look at the videos for the different outfits and figure out which ones put emphasis on their workouts. You could probably ask any cadet and they can tell you exactly which ones to avoid if you don't want to be physically challenged. Or if you like the challenge and think you have what it takes - choose H-1 - hands down toughest outfit in the corps. (still male only, I think)
 
I just have to say this, but you all do realize that Soap left the building back in July?
