Is it bad my portal has not changed? What is the latest I would find out if I pass the initial evaluation?

August 15th and if it gets to be that date then I would email the admissions office just to make sure everything is okay. My portal didn't open until 4 days after it August 15th last year. Don't worry

My son's file was closed today. Probably due to his test scores not being high enough is my guess. He is retaking them in Sept and hopefully he will try again. Good luck to those whose portal's opened!

My SAT scores are low too, but my class rank is 14/530. What were his sat scores?

He took the ACT I think he should do both next time. He doesn't have a high ranking at his school. I would say most of his "points" would have come from athletics. 3 yr Varsity football, 1st team all conference, varsity captain 2 years. His dream is to serve his country in the ARMY, mom wants college first, and football is what drives him. Why not try to combine all 3???
West Point is still his dream school, we'll see what happens....... I'm proud of him for trying and hope he tries again.

And if your file is closed then you can still try and reapply again?

Your noncommittal might tell you what you need to do reopen file. A competitive SAT scores is around 1800, it could be less if the class ranking is high. So a candidate with say 1700 SAT will be evaluate as at risk and not allowed to go on top the next phase of the application. However, if you take SAT/ACT September/October and bring the scores up, the admissions office will more than likely reopen the application file. A key is not to give up as, if the application is open up in October, there is less time to complete the application. Or some kids give up and don't apply for the nomination, so reopening of the application become irrelevent.

A candidate evaluaton is 60% academic, 30% leadership, and 10% physical. For initial evaluation, the admissions office looks at the academics mostly. Most cases, no CFA for physical evaluation. Don't need to evaluate leadership in detail as if a candidate is weak on academics, strong 30% is not going to make the difference.

It's funny because my sat score in below 1700, but class rank is 14/530. My portal opened on Monday, I was afraid it wasn't going to open. Obviously I am going to to retake sat.
