Great phone call from my plebe yesterday. He asked if we were going to go to church on Sunday, so, of course we are. So pleased he is continuing to nurture his faith at USNA. My question, are clothes like Dockers and a open collar shirt, or a polo style shirt (for dad) and nice capris/blouse (for mom) acceptable for services in the Chapel. I wouldn't want to be under-dressed

Having been there several times I would suggest you dress in traditional church attire. There will be random visitors there in shorts and flip flops (we call them slippers) but you don't want to take a chance of being under dressed and meeting a company commander it friends. It's not that big of a deal but we always we on the side of over dressed when it comes to our MIDN.

Yes those clothes will be fine for PPW chapel attendance. It will be packed so get there early.

I saw you post your question yesterday on the MMAD sight and the storm that an innocuous question ensued. As this chapel is not people's home church you will see a wide variety of clothes. Most people wear what they wear to their home church. Some home churches are dressier, some less. Some moms (I am one ;) LOL like to bring out the 'Sunday Best" so wore that dress that Ive been dying to wear with a big blue anchor on it ;) In my experience what you are describing is just fine-you will see a range and you will be in that range. The Church is so beautiful and you will be so happy to see your plebe that all else will be secondary. Navyhoops is right-it will be packed. enjoy your weekend!!!!!

I don't use that other site where it sounds like every post is an opportunity for someone to start an argument. Frankly, in the several times we have attended services there we noticed a wide variety of attire. There is certainly no reason to force a small child to overdress and be uncomfortable when it is usually very hot/humid in USNA in the summertime. Most adults wore their normal Sunday attire, but there is no one acting as the fashion police at the front entrance and you can also wear good causual attire and not feel out of place. There is certainly no enforced 'dress code' for attending church services there.

Agree with all the above. Like I said I err on my church conservative side but really truly smart casual is good and also looks good in the post chapel plebe-parent pics! Just have fun.

Just got a call from the Alumni Association confirming our brunch reservation. They very nicely reminded me of their attire requirements. I mentioned we will be coming from church. Turns out I'll have to remind our guests that while shorts are allowed in church (ok, not the short shorts), they are not allowed in the Club.

Yes for those not familiar with Officers Clubs, they tend to stick to more traditional rules, especially for Sunday brunch. Now drinking on a Friday night after work... that is another story. Clubs also vary greatly base by base. The USNA O Club tends to be more traditional/formal as it caters to lots of retired grads, formal events to support yard functions including weddings, Supt/Dant functions, etc.

I got so tired of where it was going that I just deleted the whole FB comment on MMAD. Wow, I couldn't believe it got so nasty. Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it.

Wow, I can't believe a question about church attire could be so controversial. I am sorry to hear it got that way.

More than anything enjoy this weekend! Hope there is great weather and you get some great time with your kids. They will be tired, excited, anxious, relieved, and full of every emotion. Some kids will want to sleep, others will want to go 100 miles an hour while you are there. It's one of the few times you get to go in Bancroft. Take a few minutes to soak it all and remember that moment for the next Parents Weekend 2/C year. You will be amazed at the difference in your child between the two!

That nastiness is standard for that MMAD page. If you go back and read some of the files you will be shocked and appalled. The place where you want to post questions to is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/USNAPARENTS/ or the 2019 page https://www.facebook.com/groups/936432083035283/

I am consonantly surprised at the foulness on MMAD (feel free to message me for more info) . I would take Time2's advice when he states: "I don't use that other site where it sounds like every post is an opportunity for someone to start an argument."

It seems like you got great information on this forum! Enjoy PPW!!!!!
