Attended USNA from 98-00 (was class of '02), and while I was there I vaguely remember doing paperwork for some type of clearance. I am working on gaining employment where I need a TS level of clearance and a full SSBI will have to be done, but my employer was wondering if I had any type of clearance when I left. Anyone have an idea on this?

If your employer requires clearances they can look it up if you ever had one in a system called JPAS. They just need your SSN. This is how the government and other entities (contracting companies that also use clearances) track clearances and essentially tie a person to an organization/company for a clearance. If you went to USNA for 2 years the chances are extremely high you had a secret, although it would no longer be active if it's been since 2000 when you left.

I agree with Navy Hoops. I attended NAPs and then the Academy for two years before voluntarily leaving. I recently needed a SECRET clearance and my sponsor logged in and saw that my Secret was initiated 1 month into Freshman/Plebe classes and didn’t expire for several years.

So yes, you did have a clearance, a Secret at the Academy and most likely higher depending on your job after graduation.
