I am an AFROTC cadet who is applying for a scholarship that leads to a job as a Nuclear and Missile Operations Officer. What are the pros and cons of this career field, are there opportunities to switch career fields, what is life like as this type of officer, etc. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I googled this "air force missile operations officer" and came up with several interesting articles. If you haven't read them you should take a look. I'm sure it will answer some of your questions.

Long shifts. You wont really supervise anyone for years, you will just do your job. I believe the tours are 3-4 years before you can cross train.

Also if you ask your cadre they should have some file like "Officer career fields" for each career field. Usually there has been briefings or something by someone in that career field. Last year missiles traveled around doing briefings as a recruiting tool. You could ask to see those slides if they visited the detachment you plan on attending.

Yeah, we had an officer come give a speech too, but I wanted to hear the "real" version (not the glamorized version of a recruiter).

Ask the 400s for an email to a commissioned past missile officer. They should have one, if not send me a pm and I'll get you in touch with one so you can get the real scoop.
