I received word that the supplemental board has opened up this week. No pilot slots will be available, but CSO / ABM / RPA is fair game.

Just wanted to pass on the message for those curious.

If this is true it is a shining example of why you do not delay and attempt supplemental board unless you 100% have to. Good luck to those for CSO ABM and RPA though.

Here to confirm that I also received notice of the board occurring. Anyone that no longer wants a rated slot is allowed to walk from participating in the board.

AAS, did you receive any info about when the board would conclude or roughly how many slots would be available?

Wasn't given a date but if I recollect past dates always pointed at Late September-Early October. I was told 40 slots for ENJJPT but no amount in rated slots.

I heard the same. No idea about how many RPA/CSO/ABM slots there are, but there must be at least some.

I don't think this surprising about no pilot slots, because on baseops.net it appeared that they gave out a lot more via OCS compared to years prior. The RPA aspect could be interesting because they are losing them faster than they can replace, at such a fast rate that they are back at handing out RPAs in the UPT schools for the next fiscal year. :jaw:

I am curious, from a historical perspective do they ever announce the stats like they do for the traditional rated board? If memory serves me correctly there were over 200 alternates last year. Let's assume for class of 15 they had 200 too, how many were picked up from that alternate list? 10,20, 50%?

With the backlogs for both RPA and UPT, and both working at 100% capacity, I am not sure how many more they can offer RPAs or even CSO. Kevster commissioned in May 14 with a UPT slot, and the last I read, he is now hoping to start in Nov. He waited 8 months to go casual, and now will be on casual for 10 months.
~ Just saying I am not sure how long they can keep this delay to continue for the rated side.

It appears to me they have enough students to fill the schools, just not enough man hours to get them through the program.

That's a great question, Pima. I've never seen anyone track stats for alternates -- I only hear the occasional "oh, I heard a guy at my Det got x slot in x month of his 400 year". I go to a small Det, though, so I've never really seen it first-hand.

Any word on board announcements? I asked my cadre and they haven't heard anything yet.

No word over here, either.

Let's hope there are are a decent number of slots. I'm really hoping they pick up quite a few CSO/ABM/RPAs.

Maybe I am wrong, but doesn't the typical supplemental board results not release until Nov or so? I know that USAFA class of 16 will not get their drops until end of Sept/1st of Oct.
~ That is always the interesting thing to me. AFROTC rated board occurs when they are 300s (juniors), but USAFA rated does not occur until they are C1Cs (seniors).

It maybe that they are waiting to see the drop for USAFA 1st before they make any decisions regarding the supplemental board for AFROTC. Plus, if I am correct the rated OCS board meets in July, and they release their results late Aug. They need to see who accepts those assignments too before they can get their numbers straight.
~ A friend went OCS rated a few years back. He got CSO. He went up the chain to see if he could reapply for the next board and was told no, he either takes the CSO or he goes non-rated. That took a few weeks before he got the answer. So it wasn't like they knew immediately that he would go CSO.

I am not saying that is still true, but just illustrating that until they sign that dotted line than the numbers are in flux and they need that dust to settle before they meet a board, especially if you also add in those that went to WPAFB over the summer and may have failed their FC1 (waiting on a waiver).

Finally, I think there maybe a hint to see what the drop will be like from the supplemental board if you watch what happens out of USAFA drop this year. They typically will breakdown the numbers like ROTC does. From there you can do the Math. HQ AF right now with using UPT pilots too can push through about 300 per year in total. Combine the initial ROTC RPA drop and now add in USAFAs and that should give you insight. However, remember that you will still be missing 1 piece of the equation. How many dropped out of the OCS rated board this past summer.

Good luck.

According to the AFI they release at the end of the month. I heard that the board closes today and results should be out in the next two weeks or so.

Last I heard, results should be out NLT next Friday, but that might have and could always change.

How are your stats looking, BoneDust? Did you bump all of your slots to high interest or had them staggered? Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us.

I changed my preference from medium to high on RPA and CSO but kept low for ABM (no desire to do that). Hoping for RPA since there are no pilot slots! What about you?

Nice, yeah RPA would be great! I bumped all of mine to high. I'm hoping for CSO first though, then RPA, then ABM. I'll be absolutely thrilled if I get anything, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.
