Hello,

I'm applied to the ROTC national scholarship this past year and didn't get any offers. I'm currently enrolled in my ROTC program at the university I attend and just wanted to know if getting the scholarship this route a lot easier than that of going the National route? My ROTC battalion has submitted my application and said that I should here something soon. Will I hear berfore the national guys are announced or will it be involved with national board as well. Just confused. Please let me know.

Thanks,

Doug

I didn't know you could apply for a national scholarship while enrolled with a battalion. I thought it was one or the other. I don't know if your question can be answered as to which is easier, but look at it this way, you can see your competition with the campus based, those other cadets who are also being considered for a scholarship. Did you clear DODMERB? I would think that would be a plus for a cadet as opposed to the battalion not knowing if someone needed a waiver etc. Regardless, get good grades work hard during PT, perform well on the APFT and you can sleep well knowing you did your best. Many ways to commission.

Thanks for the information. I'm actually not apply nationally and didn't know if I even could. I do know that the Cadre here has submitted my application to brigade and didn't know how that worked as it pertains to the national board. I did notice that the brigade board was being held before the national board and didn't know if that plays into it as far as how many scholarships would be available to the national board because of the the college based ones?

The two are not the same.

The application your Cadre has submitted is through the Brigade and is not effected by the National Scholarship process. Basically the Brigade will determine what funds are available for slots at the Battalions in the Brigade. I am sure they will work off of some sort of OML if there are more then one cadet in consideration from you Battalion. The time frame in which you find out will not be the same or effected by this years National process, I'm sure you will find out much sooner.

Good luck.
