My son is in the nominating process. Tore his ACL in football two weeks ago. Has medical exam today. Fully functional. Going to have surgery next week because he wants to continue with sports. Will he still be considered and re- medical tested in the Spring????

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news:

You need to contact DoDMERB and notify them of the injury. He has to be fully healed, rehabilitated and cleared before I-day. A waiver for USAFA will be required since DoDMERB will DQ him for this injury ... I speak from experience.

Edit: Depending on whether or not the surgeon determines if the meniscus is also torn (which they don't know for sure until they look), rehab can take approx 4-6 months.

In answer to your question, USAFA will evaluate him without looking at the medical, so that part will continue.

Thank you. He is estimated to be healed and back to himself by April 1st. When is I day? What is I day? He filled out the DoDMERB yesterday and pit that in the information. What else does he need to do? Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the medical questions, but as for I-Day, it is In-Processing Day for all new appointees every year. It is usually in late June (maybe the last Thursday in June, at least it was for DS). Before I-Day, all appointees will receive a date & time to arrive at the academy with their squadron. They arrive at Doolittle Hall, receive a short speech from a USAFA official and then go get in line, receive a few items and get on the bus that takes them across campus to begin Basic Cadet Training.

Thank you bith. He should be healed by April. God willing. He's had no pain and continued playing not realizing it was injured. He's extremely fit so we are hoping he heals quickly. Thank you and bless you both!

Both. Not bith.

No problem. Wish your DS the very best and, since you mentioned God, I will let you know that we will keep him in our prayers! Stick around the forum and keep us informed as to his progress and hopefully we will hear of an appointment in his future.

Yup, 6 months sounds right, so there's time to recover. I PMed you Newyorker.
