DS just completed PFE and scored 266 points. The score falls in The "A " range and seems to be quite a lot higher than the averages for the last incoming class during swab summer. Does anyone know how much the PFE factors in to the Whole Candidate Score?

Also, he has the option of taking it again at the Candidate Visit during November. He thinks he can improve but what would happen if he dropped a little....would this new score replace the old or is the best one used?

First, that's a great PFE score and I don't think he needs to retake it unless he wants to. Since we have a holistic review process, the PFE is simply used to assess physical fitness with higher scores obviously indicating higher levels of physical fitness and readiness to be successful at the Academy. Unlike the other service academies which "score" all elements of the application, including the CFA, nothing is assigned a point value during our review process. The Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board will recommend an applicant either be considered for an appointment or not be considered for an appointment based on their entire record.

If the PFE is being offered during his campus visit, it normally is for all overnight visitation programs, then I would recommend retaking it since he'll otherwise just be watching everyone else take it. He may actually improve his performance, his higher/previous score would be retained if he doesn't, but more importantly he'll experience the PFE just as our cadets do which should best prepare him for that first official PFE at the start of Swab Summer.

Thank you for the response. He plans to take it again to get the real feel and to make sure he has the proper form going forward.
