Host family (exchange student) willingness

My son strongly desires to attend the USAFA. We are willing to host a cadet over holidays etc as a mutual benefit to the cadet and my son. Is there a program in place for that already? I'm retired military myself and we reside in the Washington DC area.

I don't know about any exchange program, but you might contact the parent club in your area and see if any of the cadets would be willing to talk with your son over the break. I know some cadets talk to high schools on break like a recruiting visit, so the parent club might also let you know about that opportunity.

DS went into his old HS the Monday after Thanksgiving his C2C year (junior year). The school had set up a time with his ALO and him to meet interested students. That night there was a big parent/student thing in Arlington; many ALOs there, Nations Capital Parents club reps there, etc. Pretty sure the only students there were HS seniors who had applied to USAFA; don't think any Soph/Juniors were there.

As a HS government teacher, and parent of a NROTC student (Freshman, RPI) I always look for Academy or ROTC students from our area (northern Ohio) to come into my classroom around the time of Thanksgiving or Christmas breaks. It is a great opportunity for the cadet/midshipman (etc) to get the message out about the great things they are involved with, and it is a fantastic time for my students to see that there are opportunities out there that they may not have ever considered in the past.

In my 22 years as a teacher, I've had at least 15 of these students visit my classroom. Many of them were former students of mine.
