I realize that it is highly irregular to ask for prayers on this web-site, but STILL I am compelled to ask for prayers, thoughts, and insights.... My son...who is a C1C just recently was notified by USAFA that his vision might be a problem in enabling him to go to pilot training upon graduating from USAFA in June 2016. My son has dreamed (just like many of your sons and daughters) of flying for the Air Force for a very long time... All has gone well for over 3 years. My son has been "thankful and grateful" for attending USAFA, and has said (every single time that he has been home for a break) that he will always be appreciative that USAFA selected him. This was his dream....and USAFA has proved to be the fulfillment of his dream. Yes, he has had tough days, but has NEVER had a day when he regretted his decision to attend this remarkable academy. My son wanted this dream...and I (as his mom) will be forever grateful that attending USAFA has been a significant part of fulfilling his dream. This amazing academy has given my son so much more than just academic growth. It has taught him that his "decisions" will impact and affect many others... It has taught him about being a "leader" who "listens" to the men and women who have served as enlisted people for many more years than he has been alive. He has learned to be more "responsible" for his decisions and the impact to the men and women that work along with him. He has learned that honor, honesty, integrity, have an impact on your family, your job, your nation and the globe... The repercussions of your decisions are far greater than he might ever know on this earth. I (as his mom) am so happy and thankful that my son has selected a path that he is ever-thankful for having chosen. He wanted this life at USAFA...and he is very, very thankful that USAFA chose him. I will never be able to say "THANK YOU" enough to this great nation for all that it has provided to me and to my family. I am proud and thankful to be an AMERICAN and forever thankful that USAFA selected my son for this remarkable journey. Regardless of the outcome... I AM THANKFUL! Regardless of the outcome....HE IS THANKFUL! I do pray...and hope that you too will pray that he will be allowed to undergo this surgery, and that this surgery will be successful....
Words will never be adequate for what this forum has meant to me over the past 3 1/2 years.....
This forum has allowed me access to a world that I knew very little about....(life in the military_)
This forum has given me encouragement (when my son was disqualified for knee problems)...
This forum has give me hope....when it appeared that my son would not receive his appointment to USAFA....
I am THANKFUL.... that my son has pursued his dream. I am THANKFUL that my son has truly been blessed by attending USAFA. I am THANKFUL....even if he doesn't become a pilot. I am thankful that he was selected to serve and that he is still THANKFUL FOR HAVING BEEN CHOSEN!
It is an honor... and I am proud to be his mom. A special thanks to "Christcorps" who has helped me in so many ways over the past years with his kindness, knowledge, encouragement, and answers to SO MANY QUESTIONS.... You will never know how very much I appreciate you!
I will post the outcome for my son, regardless of the answer, but I truly do thank you for your prayers and your thoughts on his behalf...

Batmom...what is the nature of his eye problem? My son had a non waiverable condition and was able to get his waiver and is currently an Aircraft commander and Instructor pilot ...so it can be done but he will have to be very pro-active on his now behalf

If surgery is for refractive error, success rate is very high. Good luck and prayers. My DD( 2015)was out of waiver range for her eyesight and her corneas were too thin to risk surgery. She got an Exception to Policy waiver (no expiration). She is in grad school now and will go to ENJJPT after her masters is complete. There are other avenues besides surgery.

Prayers to your son and your family. Confidence and faith for what is God's Will. Blessings to you!

Mom; you know we're all here for you. This forum is family. The air force / military is family. We sometimes fight, but the love is there. Keep us informed and let us know if there's anything you need help with.

Mike.....

I AM THANKFUL! Regardless of the outcome....HE IS THANKFUL!

Based on this sentiment, I predict a good outcome, having no idea what it ultimately will be.

DS was kicked in the eye with a soccer ball in gym class, costing him his NROTC scholarship to his dream school.

There is no lasting damage, despite DoDMERB determination. For that, we are thankful.

He as a 21 yr old, is a great place, and it's a distant memory.

Thank you all for your prayers and very thoughtful posts.... I still have nothing to share since my son has not yet heard a response from the clinic about whether he will be eligible for this PRK surgery. I truly hope to share some good news tomorrow night...but we will have to wait and see...
I am grateful to USAFA regardless of their decision! I realize that they are making challenging decisions on a daily basis ....just as our sons and daughters will be making difficult decisions as Second Lieutenants. Thanks so much for your voices of encouragement. I am thankful to be the parent of a cadet attending USAFA!!!

I don't think it's weird at all to ask for prayers. I have a lot of respect for you for being so open about your faith. I will definitely pray for your son, and I know God will guide him down the right path. Best wishes to a fellow cadet (big) brother of mine.

Most cadets have PRK around commitment time. The reason being is it takes time to heal and then get the waiver. Hopefully this will all happen for your son prior to graduation.
