Hi! My son is also on the nat'l wait list for West Point and I have a question about the schools for civil prep. Are the choices of schools for civil prep the same every year? How do I find out? Does he pick which one, or is he told where to attend? Also, he is a ROTC scholarship student (freshman) and would it pay for the one year at civil prep? I hope I'm asking these questions correctly, because I'm a little overwhelmed by all this info on these boards. Thank you very much.

you get to pick one.

valley forge
marion
georgia military
new mexico military

they should start bombarding you with mail saying "pick me pick me!". your son can also call any of the admissions for those schools. the recruiters from valley forge were extremely helpful in explaining civil prep. his scholarship can help, none of the schools are terribly expensive.

Maybe it's just me, but $13k is expensive for one year!! And that is with the scholarship and that figure is from 7 years ago from a friend of mine whose son attended Valley Forge Civil Prep for Air Force Academy. Beware--can be costly for the parents.

It depends on the school. Military junior colleges are generally much cheaper than boarding prep high school.

Some military junior colleges offer nice scholarships on top of the scholarship from their academy. MMI, offers and additional $10,000 scholarship for sponsored candidates. Federal financial aid can also be used.

I am surprised to hear anyone sponsored for Air Force paid $13,000/ year. It is much cheaper at some other schools. Air Force is known for offering very generous scholarships.
In any case - shopping around is a good idea.
