We sat in the parking lot with our DS, as we live an more than an hour from the MOC's office, we arrived plenty early, and watched the kids arrive for their interviews. Kids sometimes don't realize how important appearance and first impressions are to folks. While this is our first go at it, we did see some things that surprised us. Kids showing up with crazy hairstyles, tshirt and jeans, miniskirts and thigh-high boots, wrinkled and rumpled shirts. One kid checked the wrong door, figured he was early and went back to his car. My DS walked over to him and directed him to the correct door.

DS showed up overly prepared. Interview was really fun. Said they were really friendly and all smiles the whole time. More relaxed than his B&G interviews. Didn't ask about his LOA or many of his activities. Mentioned his grades and test scores. Asked what he liked best about the academy, asked what his biggest weakness was, so basically a lot of the same questions he'd already answered before. He did say he told them as honestly as he could that he was decided on a major (everything excites him and with so many to choose from, it'll be hard to pick just one), and said that his weakness that he chose, he changed because he feels like he is maturing and his weakness changes.

Overall, he came out to the car in a great mood, very happy. Nothing to fear here, and no need to feel pressure. Just be yourself and be honest in every answer.

Dad2020, glad to hear your DS had a good interview. My DD had a similar experience yesterday. Her first interview at our district MOC committee was with two AF officers and was very casual. She was prepared for questions but said it was more like a chat around a coffee table. They asked a few questions about her resume and commented that her transcripts were extremely impressive . They also wanted to know how she did so well on her SAT. She said they talked way more than she did. They said she would do very well at the Academy and sent her on her way.

Her second interview at the senator's office was much more intimidating. There were 18 interviewers in the room and each one asked a question. None of the questions were curveball, the usual why the AF and not the others; what would you do if given an order that goes against your moral code; what are plans B,C,D? Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.

Overall, she was very pleased. She has one more next week and then the real waiting begins. Good luck to your DS.

Good luck to your DD. I believe our senators do not conduct interviews, so we just have to wait now. Glad that there are people willing to let people know that it's not a stressful event. So, also glad to hear that it isn't unique for it to be a comfortable experience.

18 interviewers??? Oh my! How do 18 people come to a consensus on anything?

That's a great question. Glad I don't have to make the decision.

My DD finished up her 3rd interview yesterday and appreciated the forum tips. Thanks all. ;) She drove to the interviews and chose her "pump" music as I navigated. While she interviewed, I headed over to the bakery for a cup of coffee and some goodies for an hour or so waiting for the "I'm done" text.

Of course, DD had swim meets on opposite ends of the state and the MOC admin staff graciously accommodated her crazy schedule. She showed up in her "orchestra pit" black uniform, which she needed to wear for the last of nine musical play performances she did this past week. DD had no time to worry or practice for the interview. Said she was strategically able to pause, breathe in and out, say "that's a good question" before proceeding to answer the curve balls which were mostly ethic and female leadership questions, but nothing strange. She said it was a lot of fun, had a good time and really enjoyed the process.

I think what helped tremendously is her Plan B & C college wish list and scholarship awards are starting to show up, so it took the pressure off to feel her world would fall apart if she didn't get a nomination. I did not see one sweat bead appear.

Gee, to be so confident reminded me of Stevie Nick's song Edge of Seventeen. :rolleyes2: Best regards to all of you "waiting on the edge" to hear the nomination results.
