Of the 9 that received Reserve/National Guard, did they request the component or were they given to them.

Impressive that 100% received one of their top 3 choices, they must have received some very good branch counseling.

All 9 chose to be either in the Reserves or National Guard

That is great! Do you know if Norwich has notified any of the high school seniors who put them As their number one choice for AROTC scholarships by any chance? My son has already been Accepted and waiting patiently .. Kind of! Lol
Congrats to the 90 cadets!!

I think you would hear that news first from cadet command in Ft. Knox, not from Norwich. I could be wrong.

The fact that everyone who requested AD got it is not surprising given that Norwich is a SMC.
However, it is impressive that almost everyone got their desired branch.

Just because it's an SMC does not guarantee AD. The PMS still has to recommend you for AD over NG or Reserve. At most SMCs there are usually a few cadets who request AD but but get pushed to NG or Reserve instead, not that those units don't also need strong leaders.

SMC and PMS recommendation does guarantee AD. Last year 105 SMC cadets "below the line" got active duty.

That's exactly what I said: there is no guarantee of AD unless the PMS recommends you for it.

To clarify:
Per Federal law regarding Army ROTC, only SMC's (and USMA) can guarantee active duty upon satisfactory graduation from the Corps of Cadets and approval of the AROTC Professor of Military Science (PMS).

PAYITFWD was just augmenting my statement with the mandatory qualification that the PMS must okay the guarantee. I think we are actually all on the same page.

Right, Payitfwd?

I agree we're on the same page as regards PMS recommendation, but undated articles are not reputable sources. UNG has not been North Georgia College and State University since January 2013, for one thing, and that article needed additional editing for clarity.

We throw around the word "guarantee" with commissions from SMCs quite often, but it misleads people into thinking that as long as they can get accepted to an SMC, they can become an Army officer. That is not the case. No PMS is going to recommend a cadet for a job as an Army officer if he's not prepared to lead men and women into combat or provide excellent support and planning for those people. Somehow, some way, cadets who won't make good officers will end up on the cutting room floor before it comes time for that PMS to submit the list for recommendation.

A graduate who commissioned from an SMC earned that commission by proving to the PMS that he/she will be an excellent leader.

I agree. That was not a reputable source. Here is the actual legal code:
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/2111a?quicktabs_8=1#quicktabs-8

(e)Assignment to Active Duty.—
(1)
The Secretary of the Army shall ensure that a graduate of a senior military college who desires to serve as a commissioned officer on active duty upon graduation from the college, who is medically and physically qualified for active duty, and who is recommended for such duty by the professor of military science at the college, shall be assigned to active duty.
(2)
Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit the Secretary of the Army from requiring a member of the program who graduates from a senior military college to serve on active duty.
(f)Senior Military Colleges.—The senior military colleges are the following:
(1)
Texas A&M University.
(2)
Norwich University.
(3)
The Virginia Military Institute.
(4)
The Citadel.
(5)
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
(6)
The University of North Georgia.

With 105 cadets commissioning last year into Active Duty from SMC's that were below the AD Cutoff line, maybe it's time to rethink the legal code.
