Will a nomination call come before posting it on the portals?

I'm assuming that a Senator or Rep would call the candidate with their notice of nomination but would they just send a letter instead? Could it possibly show up on the academy portal before the candidate gets a call/letter? Just curious.

Oh, I did a little more digging. Sounds like the notification could come in just about any form. DS checks the USNA and USMC portal daily just hoping it will pop up!

It all depends on the MOC. My Representative calls (hoping to hear from him later this week!) while both my Senators send out letters. Those usually arrive before any portal updates, however.

Some MOC's will call, some will send an e-mail, and some resort to "snail mail."

"To each their own!"

Our MOC called our son before it showed up in his portal but I have read that others had a different experience.
That said, I think that that call will forever be etched in his memory. :) Oh what a happy day that was!

Mine sent us via snail mail that we had been nominated and called for the appointment, but that was a million years ago. Every year on this board it seems to be a mixed bag.

Do you really think anyone on this board, to include super-moderators, keeps track of how every MOC handles their notification process? That being said, I suppose someone here might know anecdotally. Perhaps an easier way to find out is to call the MOC(s) office(s).

Or search the forum for your state.

Our DSs came in all 3 ways. Phone call, portal change and snail mail.

Oh, Kinnem, no need to be snarky. Flieger is an ALO from AZ, no? I just thought I would ask, that's all.

I also think it's likely that each office (even with in the same state) may handle things differently.
When we first met with our MOC (at a large academy day event) he stated clearly that he always handled the nomination process in a specific way (and he outlined it for us). Well, something must have happened because his office deviated from how he had said it would happen. So, even if you hear from your MOC that it will happen in a specific way, it may still happen differently.

Hi!

"Most" of the MOC's in Arizona have, if they use the "Principal, Alternate" method, called the "principal candidate" once their board makes that decision. I was on Congressman Flake's (now Senator) board years ago when he used the "P/A" method and once we picked the principal, we called them and it was always the same day of the interview. The rest pretty much either email, followed by a letter, or simply with a letter.

But each year is different...they might have a new staff member, decided to change their method...you just never know.

Thanks Steve.

Well, to answer the OP question, it can just magically appear on your portal and you would never know it unless you check. That is exactly what happened to my DD. She interviewed last weekend with her district rep and senator #1. She had her third interview today with senator #2. She checked her portal this evening and it listed a NOM from her rep. She has not received any correspondence from her rep nor USAFA. It just appeared on her portal. She has two NOMs to date; presidential and district rep. Now the real waiting begins. At least all the interviews are done. Good luck to all candidates.

Thanks for the insight! Son just checked his portals, and low and behold, he just discovered that he got nominations from our congressman FOR USAFA, USMA, and USNA!!!!!!!!!!

He interviewed with one senator yesterday, and has another on Dec 5, but he is sooooo stoked to have one for each Academy in hand.

Thanks for info.

My DS received letter from Senator Perdue (Georgia) today with nomination. Hasn't shown up in portal yet. Very nice way to start our Thanksgiving week!
