When are we supposed to actually find out if we were awarded scholarships for the first board? Army ROTC

I really do not think anyone knows. Personally, I am hoping the official letter arrives as late in December as possible. My son will have 30 days from the date of that letter to decide which school to apply the scholarship towards. This is a major decision - so I'd prefer him to have the opportunity to visit each school one more time while the school is in session. With winter breaks around the corner, he may need to see the schools at the beginning of the spring semester. People on this board may totally disagree with me, and I guess since we know the outcome from the first review board we can afford to be patient.

Close but I'm almost certain it's 30 days from when the letter was written or perhaps postmarked... not 30 days from when you receive it. I don't think it makes a big difference either way. I only mention it in case it makes a difference to you.

We know that it is 30 days either from the date the letter is written or from when it is postmarked. We know that there will be a date specified on that letter that he will need to reply by. Figure he will have approximately 25 days from when he receives the letter to reply...but thank you nonetheless. We are hoping for a reply date of mid to late January (we can hope), but no matter what he/we are grateful for the opportunity.
