Hello everyone,

I understand that this has most likely been posted before but I looked and I turned up relatively little with my search. I received an email less than an hour ago letting me know that I have an interview December 19th with my MOC and I was wondering if there were any big tips, common mistakes, any huge NO-NO answers to questions, etc.?

Another note are there any questions that come out of no where that one can think of? I have heard that they try to catch you off guard with questions and I was wondering if anyone had some that I could maybe prepare with.

Thanks in advance this community has helped so much and you all don't understand how grateful I am to have all of you stepping along with me through this process. It's long and difficult but no one will ever be able to say they had to do it alone.

Do a search in the Nominations forum. This was discussed at length just this past week; try interview questions or nomination interviews as key words.

BGO interview, or MOC interview? My sons BGO interview was more informational, and no real tricks or difficult questions. The MOC interviews he has had so far had a wide range, from questions about the honor code, to what kind of a guitar he plays. He has had two MOC interviews, and both started with why he wanted to attend one of the academies, and why he thinks he will be able to do well. He and I came up with a list of anticipated questions, and he wrote out answers, then created a study guide for himself. We practiced a few times. He said that helped a ton. He is a fairly quiet kid in general, but is thoughtful and bright. He just got nominations to USNA, USMA, and USAFA from first interview, and we are waiting on the others. The candidate book (can't remember its title, but can buy at bookstore) has lots of good questions, and suggestions on how to approach them.

Here is a great link with some very helpful info for congressional interviews:

I had an interview with one of my senators that was horrible (very obvious that the interviewers were tired of being there). But the other two I had went great. I did not get asked any curveball questions but it probably helped that I made index cards of every possible question and instead of scripting answers, tried to answer off the bat, quickly but different each time.

FEARTHEGOAT... I love it!

You might get this one from Amazon. Not too spendy and a good read, IMHO:

"ACE YOUR NAVAL ACADEMY INTERVIEW" by Lauren Elliott.

Try searching 'MOC Interviews' on this site and you will see nearly 200 threads on that topic.
