how much pull does a great Candidate Fitness Assesment score have? or is it simply a pass fail thing that doesnt factor into admissions? Also how often is it that people get a 100 on all the parts?

The CFA is 10% of your Whole Candidate Score. So in short, it is pretty important. I believe that it is a pass/fail test, however, you want to do your best in each event because that factors into the 10percent. I do not know how frequent it is for people to get 100 on all parts.
Hope that helps.
Good Luck!!

Statistically Possible, but...

How often is it that people get a 100 on all the parts?

I've been looking at CFA scores. From the 85 or so folks that have self reported their CFA scores on this and the CC site, no one has reported max-ing all the CFA events.

The closest anyone has come was one candidate who reported maxing four of the six events.

An achieveable goal would be to be above average in all the events and come close to maxing a few.

i don't know about y'all, but i was pretty fatigued at the end of the test. i think it's designed for you to shoot for a goal, but carry that same endurance throughout the test. i'm sure there is someone out there Herbert "Hercules" Jones that could max out on all events...

i run track and can do a mile in around 4:30 i know the max is 5:20 but would there be any benefit watsoever for me to run drastically below 5:20, obviously im not gonna be able to run sub 4:45 given fatigue and the conditions just wondering if it would make my CFA standout even more or is soely scored as a 100 for the mile run part?

what would be a good score on a CFA for a male?
As above: An achieveable goal would be to be above average in all the events and come close to maxing a few.

Do your best, regardless.

Both USMA and USAFA post averages and maximums in their online CFA webpages.

From the 80+ males who self-reported scores, you'd be in the top 17% if you:

Bball - >82 ft
Pullups - >14
Shuttle - <8.3 sec
Situps - 95 (the most often maxed event)
Pushups - >73 (the 2nd most maxed event)
Mile - <5:49

once you score the maximum in any event, anything above that maximum will not improve your overall score. focus on training for the events you dont have as much talent in

wow...i was nowhere near those "high end" scores.

iirc, my CFA went something like this:

BBall Throw: 78'
Pullups: 7
Shuttle Run: 8.2
Situps: 72
Pushups: 60
Mile: 7:38 (or around there)

and i got in. so, although i'm not saying don't do your best, there are other important things that are taken into consideration as well. coming out of my CFA i thought that was it, i was finished, and i started making plans for civilian college.

Can you take it more than once? cause im gonna take it at SLS and pending my sucess i might wanna do it again

you can take it as many times as you need. train before you show up at sls! you will find out if you passed or not at the end of the week. if so you have one less thing to worry about as fall rolls around and you begin work on applying for nominations, etc.

You can take the CFA as many times as you want. Just remember that it is a pass/fail thing and that while you should strive to do your best on every event it is not necassary to max everything to get in. It definately looks better if you max everything or score higher than the max on something. I got an appointment and my CFA score was not what I consider to be very good (got to hate those dang colds or what ever it was).

You also have to remember that your squad leader will write an evaluation of you. It probably won't sit very well with them to see that you could have done better on your CFA but instead chose to take it easy. They want to see that you are a motivated, hard charging, individual who always does their best no matter what.

One last thing. Don't forget that there are other parts to the admissions process. You'll have to fill out lots of paper work, get your teachers to write letters of recomendation, write some essays, and you'll have to continue to do well in school and stay in shape. There may be more important things to get done than get the last 5 pushups you need to max the CFA.

Have fun at SLS.

For the West Point admissions application -

If you go to SLS and take and pass the CFA then you are good to go and don't have to worry about a re-take.
If you don't pass it you may take it again with your phys ed teacher. Once that score is submitted you may only re-take on approval of admissions.
Occasionally an otherwise strong candidate will be asked to re-take the CFA if they did poorly in part of the test.

You may PRACTICE the test as many times as you like.

i just mean since it is 10 percent of ur candidacy, if u are lacking in other areas wouldnt it be more than beneficial ot attempt and max as many events as possible. ive done mock tests before with my gym teacher and i maxed 3 out of 6 events (mile, situps and shuttle) so im pretty sure i can pass at SLS.

I dont intend on taking it easy, just if i dnt max at least 5 out of 6 i want to take it again. (lol ive realized that basketball throw max is near impossible)

CFA Strategy

... It definately looks better if you max everything or score higher than the max on something...

Nope!

The test is cumulative, so it is a disadvantage to keep doing any event when you have already max-ed it. That 19th pull-up could make it impossible to get that 95th crunch or that 75th push-up.

I've been tracking CFA scores and have compiled 83 male and 12 female CFA scores self-reported here and on CC. The best anyone reported was max-ing three of the six events.

The maximums for each event and the averages for USMA and USAFA are available on their CFA webpages.

Practice your CFA as you will have to do it, including the time limits between events, and the cumulative time limit.

When my dd took hers, she found that an achieveable goal was to to be above average in all events and to try to max a few.

Good luck and PRACTICE!
