DS just texted that he received email from 1st choice school....4year winner...we are thrilled and so proud of him. He is to expect confirmation email over the next few days and he says his app still says boarded.... good luck to all...and thanks for willing to serve our country!!

Congrats.

This happens sometimes. The schools get the info and release it early, before the winner notification emails go out.

Congratulations to your son.

For others waiting, don't worry if your status hasn't changed or you have not been notified by a ROTC program yet. The programs are not supposed to be letting anyone know until the the results are posted and the letters are sent, some programs ignore this and jump the gun by calling an applicant. The official notification has not happened yet so don't think you were passed over, the results should be out soon.

I emailed the contact email on the AROTC website and they told me that due to another delay they would not be releasing the results for another week or two.

If you don't mind, what were your DS' stats and or schools they applied to?

I received an email from my second choice school today that I was a four year winner. Does this mean I will not be offered a scholarship to my first choice school in my letter?

Not necessarily....and quite possibly one of the reasons that schools aren't supposed to be notifying cadets before Cadet Command officially updates the web portal. My **GUESS** is that **MOST** of the scholarship winners in the 1st round will have offers to all of their top school choices. Heck, my daughter went in Round 3 and her #1, 2 & 4 school choices were open to her (#2 was Michigan).

Thank you for clarifying. I am hopeful this will be the case. This is a test of patience for sure!

Got an email from my #1 school, Virginia Tech today. It did not say "if you get a army ROTC scholarship" it says something along the lines "we want you at VT, you should visit the schools on your list before you make a decision on where to use your scholarship" do you suspect I have received a scholarship??

Austin, I received the same email and am also unsure about our status. Would love to hear if you find anything out, but I fear it may be a strange coincidence that we got an email from VT the same day as others found out about ROTC.

In any case you should visit VT. Life in the Corps of Cadets is different from anything else. Besides it's a beautiful drive to see a beautiful campus. Remember to kiss the hokey stone.

Yes...and I agree that if it is within the financial means of your family (and you have time in your schedule as you'll have only 30 days to commit), you should absolutely go visit every school you can. My daughter ended up at a school that wasn't even on her original list when she turned in her application (it was later added before she was boarded though). You never know what you may like or what may turn you off completely. Some units will totally hook you up, give you a full blown tour, introduce you to the cadre and maybe even let you spend the night with a current cadet. My son was able to do this and all was taken out on one of the outdoor labs where the cadets were building top bridges.

Keep in mind that every ROTC unit is run differently and has different opportunities available to the cadets. Do you want to go to a school with a monster size unit where you just may be lost in a crowd? Some people would prefer that while others may want a smaller unit where they know they will have a better chance to stand out in the crowd. Another thing to remember is the ROTC PMS & cadre that you "love" today will be most likely be gone from the school long before you graduate.

Go for a run followed by a cold shower. Wondering is a waste of time. Work on alternate plans.

I just posted but then saw this. So, my son received a congratulations letter in the mail from the Recruiting Officer at his school for the four year scholarship. We checked the portal and status is still 'Boarded'. Being the weekend, of course, we can't get a hold of this Officer. After seeing the portal, we wondered if the letter *could be* a mistake but sounds like it is not? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. My son is so excited!

Well, I finally received the call from my local ROTC office (on my 18th birthday which was nice!)informing me I was a four year scholarship winner and they will be making a presentation at my school later this week.

Well that's awesome. Congratulations!!
