Extended the deadline and nominations?

I recently checked my USAFA online application and it said, "You have met your deadline of 1/31/16 to be considered an appointment. However, your file will not be reviewed until your status changes to complete." I am missing my HS transcript and CFA scores. I just mailed the transcript and it should get there by the original deadline (12/31/15). I took my CFA but decided not to submit it because I wasn't happy with it. I am planning to retake it next week If I am ready. But my question is, do USAFA admissions extend deadlines? Is this normal? I am a bit worry and nervous. Also, for the nominations, when do Presidential and Vice Presidential usually start selecting their nominees?
Thank you.

I am a bit confused about your two deadlines, but I would definitely not miss the 12/31/15 deadline for your CFA. I have never heard of USAFA extending any deadline.

If you applied for a presidential nomination, it should show up on your portal a few weeks after submission. That NOM is automatic as long as you request it. I do not know when the VP NOMs are selected, but you can expect to hear about appointments in March or April.

Thank you. The presidential nomination is automatic? What would it say on the portal? Currently it just says received under mine.

The president does not choose his nominees. What I mean by automatic is if you apply for the presidential NOM, then you will receive that NOM and it will show up on your portal as received and then will list nomination as presidential. So it seems that you have it.

Your appointment, however, is not automatic. There may be 500+ presidential NOMs vying for an appointment and only 100 of those are slated to the president. I have no idea when the VP nominees are selected. Maybe someone else can answer that question, but I suspect it will be in March or April.

As far as your deadline for the CFA, it is what USAFA gives you and whatever it is you should meet it. This year USAFA staggered candidate deadlines so they are all different. My DD had to have all of her items completed by November 10th including her CFA. Her app has been completed since October 30th, so I can't go back and look at the original deadline request but this is from her original letter:

"Applicants will be promoted in the order they applied and most deadlines to complete the candidate kit will occur from the 1st of November to the 31st of January. Your specific deadline is posted on your portal. Please be aware of the deadline since failure to complete the required items by the deadline will disqualify your application."

So, to answer your question about extending deadlines, my answer would be a resounding "NO". USAFA receives thousands of applications completed on-time and if one cannot meet the deadline then it helps them to weed out candidates. With that said, keep training and get your CFA results submitted by the deadline on your portal. And if you have any doubts as to what your deadline is, you should contact your admissions liaison officer. That is what they are there for. Good luck to you.

I know that this is a bit of an older discussion but wanted to say that my DD had to retake her CFA (due to the running, they did not say but she maxed everything else). She spoke to them a few days before second due date and they offered to extend the second test out another month. She didn't ask they just gave the need if it was needed...She ultimately did and succeeded by the original due date. She found it unfair to take the additional time and pushed herself to get it done. So USAFA can give lenience if it seems it's needed.

I was in a boot for the month leading up to my deadline and I called my admissions counselor the day of the deadline, Nov 31, to ask for an extension and he gave me a month extra no problem. I waited till the last day to see if I could manage and I couldn't and explained that to him and they had no problems with it, so IMO if you have a reasonable request they'll work with you.

^^ There is a difference between procrastinating to get all of the requirements done and some medical issue which prevented you from taking the CFA. Part of the application process is about following instructions and getting things done before the stated deadlines.
