Am I allowed to listen to music on an MP3 and have a friend pace me for the mile during the Cfa?
Frenzy, I think if one were to run the CFA mile with their dog pulling them along by the leash would not be acceptable either. The CFA instructions state that:
"The test administrator will:
[...]
Not permit pacing by another person"
So if your friend is a person(a human being), s/he cannot pace you. There is no rule regarding pacing by a non-human being, but my guess(and I'm not qualified to make this guess so if you want an official ruling on this I can't give you one) is that they don't want anything pacing you even though they only mention pacing by another person.
The instructions also state:
"Any item that gives a candidate an unfair
advantage is not permitted during the CFA."

Having a dog pulling him along by a leash would undoubtedly be cheating. The rules specifically state:Frenzy, I think if one were to run the CFA mile with their dog pulling them along by the leash would not be acceptable either. YellowFellow, just get it done and do your best by yourself like every other candidate that takes the test. The CFA instructions state that:

There are quite a few parts of the CFA instructions that seem oddly worded to me. My favorite part is in the mile run instructions where it says:
"Monitor the candidate to make sure he/she does not:
Leave the designated running course for any reason."
I can't even imagine someone deciding to leave the CFA during the middle of the mile run I don't see how doing so would be advantageous at all. If you left and came back your time would be absolutely dismal.
Frenzy, my comment was a feeble attempt at satire, not intended to be taken seriously. But, I am positive that running/pacing yourself with a dog (off leash) is not allowed, especially if the dog or other animal is a well conditioned runner. Perhaps we could set up one of those mechanical rabbits that the greyhounds chase with the goal of catching it at the end of the mile. It may improve your time, however, it might give the tester an unfair advantage.Having a dog pulling him along by a leash would undoubtedly be cheating. Receive physical help during the event (pushed,
pulled, picked up, or carried)."
However, the rules do not mention pacing by a non-human being, only pacing by a person is mentioned. It also states:
"Any item that gives a candidate an unfair

However, animals are not items. So really there is absolutely no mention of pacing by (a) animal(s). Based on the information available, I don't think that either of us can say with any certainty that it is against the rules or not. That being said, I agree with you in that I don't think you are supposed to have an animal pace you, but I lack the knowledge to definitively say that is true.

Gokings, I just about fell out of my chair. That is too funny.
