I checked my son's USAFA application page today and noted under the NOMINATION STATUS is listed: RECEIVED and his congressman's name. He interviewed this past weekend.
I don't recall seeing that status previously, does RECEIVED mean that they have the congressmans name or that no kidding he did get a nom? I don't want to call the congressmans office to ask this question today. Interesting that if he did receive a nom he hasn't received an email or text or call or anything from the congressman's office.
Suppressing my enthusiasm..... difficult.... but still doing it :)

He got the NOM from that MOC. The letter will most likely come later. My DD found out about her NOM via portal and then a letter showed up a few weeks later. Congrats.

Really? Wow, great news for him!!
So the next question is, with 10-15 kids interviewing for that nom, does that mean he is just "slated" or does that mean he got the primary? Is there any way to know based upon that info, or do we need to find out where he was slated from the congressman's office?

Congratulations, Doc!
I would contact the MOC's SA coordinator and ask about the slate. Your mileage may vary as not all SA coordinators are created equal.

+1 falconsrock - was same for my DS. Got message via portal, MOC called couple days later. Message did not specify principal vs slated. In our case I know DS did not get principal, but he had an LOA...

Congrats!!! Job well done!

There is no way of knowing slated vs. principal based on what you noted unless you know how your MOC does his/her noms. I would do some homework on this before you called the office....on MOST of their own websites, MOC's will have an entire section on how to apply for noms, etc. and will include the method that they employ. You can do this in matter of minutes and hopefully get your question answered.

Yep, I think I will just sit on my hands and find out later where he is on the slate. His ALO told me that there were 2 ROTC applicants in the pool this year, I suspect the only reason he mentioned this is because one or both may be slated above him. Oh well, it is still a good step. We will carry on with all of his backup plans and see where the chips fall. At least it isn't "bad" news :)

The most common method is unslated. Also, getting a Nom is great. If he doesn't get picked off the slate it means he can move to the NWL also. Tons of threads on the NWL right now, even one today. Also, you never know how many other noms those on the slate qualify for. Hang in there, a Nom is a great step!

Maybe, but I am still not convinced the USAFA is going to give him a shot, his CFA improved but is still pretty weak. He is waiting another month before doing it 1 more time for the USNA and I am pretty sure it is going to be much better, he is really slimming down and dropping his football weight, already 2.5 inches thinner around his waist!.... choices maybe, but even getting accepted to one is such a huge success... we will see :)
