I understand that some people have already received the Presidential nomination this year. Are those rolling? When do the majority of the candidates hear if they have received this particular one?

Thank you!

Armymom, the presidential nomination is automatic. If you apply for it, you receive it. However, it does not guarantee an appointment. No one knows exactly when those are slated, but the SAs can appoint 100 per year.

Oops, sorry, I mean when do the appointments go out for those with the Presidential nomination? My apologies. Yes, he has the nomination listed on all of his portals. I guess what I'm wondering is have those people been notified yet or is it on a rolling basis. Thanks :)

It is a rolling basis in a way... dependent on the candidates WCS. I have seen candidates with no LOA, only a Prez. nom get an appointment in Nov, and I have also seen candidates with no LOA and no other nom. get an appointment during Mass Mailing March.

Remember there is no limit to the number of Presidential nominations, but there is a limit to how many can be charged.

If I was to guess, my guess would be that there is at least a handful with Presidential nominations that have been appointed already. Not a lot, but at least a handful.

Is that true for all the SAs regarding a "handful" of appts in the fall??? It seems like the USNA pulls the trigger on Pres noms in the fall more so than WP or AFA?

It is undoubtedly true for each academy. They will offer an appointment to someone with a Presidential nom who they know they will offer an appointment to anyway, even if they waited until the spring. These folks are the creme de la creme, just like the LOA folks and they want to keep the likes of Harvard, MIT, Stanford, etc. from getting them. They don't bother with the LOA as they already have a nomination where the Service Academy is going to pick the winner anyway. Don't know if Navy pulls the trigger more often than any other academy. I imagine it varies from year to year depending on the number of applicants they want to "lock down".
