How were you notified of your MOC Nom?

DS got a call yesterday requesting his presence at our MOC's office Monday. I assume our MOC isn't asking us to drive 2 hours each way to give bad news. I thought they normally just said over the phone or by letter. I assume he's wanting a photo op for his monthly email newsletter.

Anyone heard of this method of notification? Just curious and of course very proud!

Never thought of that. He does have an LOA from USNA and a senatrorial Nom for AF so he's a strong candidate.

I was just thinking about checking his portal, I'll do that when he gets home.

Thanks

Our MOC just send DS an email. He got it yesterday. He got noms to USAFA, USNA and USMA. This was a surprise because we thought he would only get one. This really helps his chances. Maybe one of them will give him an appointment. Our MOC does not use principal noms or prioritized slates. the nom is not on his portal yet

Congrats to you, Brawny77 and Coach62. My DS is a junior so it is encouraging to see your progress. Best wishes.

Well, that says it all. If he already has a couple of NOMs and an LOA , then it's most likely an appointment. I bet you donuts on it!:bounce:

Last year my DS received Congressional noms from both our senator and representative, both of which notified him by mail. When he got a phone call from the MOC office a month later it was to inform him he had received an appointment. So, hopefully you're in for some good news.

Interesting. I didn't realize the appointment comes from the MOC???? Or does he just give out the good news?

Sorry, this is obviously my first time through this and have a ton to learn.

If it makes a difference, there is no nomination showing up in his portal. He just had his interview last Monday 12/7

The appointment comes from the Academy, but the news may come from the MOC.

Sorry to piggyback on this question, but I am wondering if it is common for the portal to be updated before receiving any other notification. I had my interview on December 8th, and checked my portal on December 11th to see 'Congressional 21st District California' on my nominations page. I still haven't received anything in the mail or a phone call or email so I am a little curious. One of my friends also received the same nomination to the Naval Academy without any notification from the congressional office. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is possible to see portal updated before receiving contact from MOC.

We discovered today that the portals update before the MOCs in our region. My son had his interview with his congressman's panel on Sunday. Today both the USAFA and USNA portals show that a nomination has been received for him. I would imagine his office probably want to the get the noms in as soon as possible, we expect a letter within a week (based upon what I have heard from others).

You can be notified by any method or might not be at all. Just read these threads and you can see it is all over the map. If it's been entered, that is great news! The last item needed with those pesky 3Qs needed for an appointments Since everything is done electronic whomever coordinates the noms for a MOC can have them submitted quickly. Every MOC works at their own speed. They have until Jan 31st to submit. As you can see majority are rolling in now As the staffer who does this entry is probably crossing stuff off their list before they take vacation like the rest of America. If you got a Nom, that is awesome! Those still waiting, hang in there!

Traditionally when appointments roll out in mass, the MOC will be notified and are given a few days to call and notify a candidate first. It doesn't mean this is where Nom comes from if you are qualified for multiples noms. It's just how it's done to give your local MOC a chance to congratulate a constituent. To be honest who you are charged to doesn't really matter, an appointment is an appointment. Just like with Noms, you will see the full array of notifications for appointments. Some will be MOC phone calls, others will see portal updates, others will get a BFE. So after the new year and they start to roll out relax and remember as long as you don't have a TWE, you are in the game!

My DS was awarded two senator nominations, both for USAFA today. He really wanted USNA as his #1 choice. He called to see if he could get at least one for the USNA from these nominations but was told once they are set in the portal that is it. We still have yet to hear from the local congressman, maybe we will get lucky although he feel very fortune now. We are still waiting on acceptance to both SAs. He found out by mail today for one and then checked his USAFA portal and saw he had been awarded two congressional nominations from both our senators to the USAFA. I feel relieved...sorta...still need the acceptance...still working on plan B,C and D.

My DS was notified of his appointment Nov. 30th via a phone call from the MOC who had given him the nomination! It showed up on the portal two days later. Thankfully we didn't have to drive two hours to get it! Good luck to your DS, Coach62!

Crossing fingers your DS will get a USNA Nom from your MOC!

Thanks for the in-depth answer. I just got the letter in the mail today so I'm feeling even better! Now it's just the waiting game I guess. Hopefully since I have better grades this semester than I did last year, and I got a nomination with those (along with a presidential nomination) that is good news for the future!

Our son already had one LoA and got a call from a MOC (son's mobile) with 2 noms. So in our case, phone call.
