if you are not a recruited athlete? Like for a smaller sport? How many of you guys with appointments made contact with your future coach? Getting worried here....I know we have a ways to go until April 15th, but the thought of last year just keeps creeping in to my head.

Thanks for the help and support on this forum. It's been a lifesaver.

Have a wonderful day!

no coaches for me..CGA actually doesn't even have the sport I play..though I do know someone who talked to a coach and felt it helped somewhat.

If a candidate's skill as an athlete can significantly contribute to the sport, the coach can add a letter to their admissions file and they may get a few bonus points, but athletic skill is NOT a deciding factor in the admissions process.

Thanks Luigi

That's pretty much what we thought. Thanks for the always sound advice. Can you tell we're getting a little antsy out here?

My son has not received official notification, but the head coach of two sports called him this week to tell him he has an apointment. He was told by the coaches the same thing about some bonus points but it was not going to be the "IT" factor. Nonetheless, it is nice to get some "advance" notice. I still check the mailbox...

Fortunately (for us), and perhaps unfortunately (for great athletes with weaker academics), we have a lot of applicants who are outstanding performers both in the classroom and in the athletic arena. I always recommend that applicants outreach to our athletic coaches and/or the Director of Cadet Bands, because the Athletic/Musical Potential Report (the "letter" that Luigi referenced) may not play much of a role in earning a direct appointment; however, it can be very important at the CGAS Board. We try to reserve ~35% of our prep school spots for recruited athletes/musicians, so input from our coaches and/or the Director of Cadet Bands definitely has an impact on the admissions process.
